I know he can score, but what bothers me about trades like this is why wouldn't Vancouver want to keep him? Is he underperforming? Why is he underperforming? He has so much talent around him, much more than the Devils could offer. So we want to trade for an underperforming winger, and put him on a line with worse talent.. in hopes that he does better.

They need to move out money because previous management (frank)ed their cap situation and theycneed wiggle room. He's one of their more valuable pieces, outside of their core untouchables, because of his contract. Has nothing to do with his performance.

The quote specifically from their beat writer on the situation of possibly moving Miller and Garland, "Its going to be a tough situation moving forward. But it's part of the business and the salary cap is a big issue."

Yup, we should totally pass on good players because of his size! Because we have too many good players anyway...

that makes sense, thanks. But the guy is also on pace for 20 goals and 30 assists, again, with better linemates than he'd have here. Last year was a little more productive. Of course keeping in mind this is just his 4th NHL season, will be 26 in March.

Yeah he's been unlucky on the PP this year as well as only getting time on the 2nd unit, only 1G and 1A, but he's been very good at 5v5. I believe hes 20th in the league in xGAR, and models have him projected to be worth 2.3 wins. Leads the Canucks forwards in GF% and xGF%, and is 3rd in CF% very slightly behind Boeser and Hoglander. Solid defensively too, with decent shot suppression numbers and a positive two way impact.

He'd be a good compliment to Nico imo, and would instantly be our 2nd best winger. Would help big time with leaving Nico out to dry with dog tier wingers. Age and contract all line up well with what we want too. All depends on the cost though.

For everyone that wants to trade Severson. How would you replace him?
- justTHEtip1220

Not that I’m in the boat of “trade Severson”, but…. This team has 15 wins in 45 games, you really think anyone is concerned about replacing Severson? This team is one of the worst in the league with him, although, the teams play deserves a few more W’s, the team won’t be much different without him. Comes down to the questions, does he want to resign here? And, does this organization want to bump his salary on another long term contract on a player that will be 29 at the end of this deal? Palmeri just played out that scenario, didn’t play out too well. His value would fetch a fine return… that’s why it would make sense to move him.

I'm on the boat of trade Severson and have been since Toronto has been having difficulties with Nylander's contract situation (late 2017). I don't even have to say anything at this point... his play is saying it for me.

Failing to cover both the shot and the pass last night on the SH goal that ended up being the GG has got to be the lowlight of that guy's many miseries in his NHL career.

Trade him now? The team will be lucky if they get anything better than a 4th round pick. If I'm a team on a playoff run, am I going to trade for a January defenseman? Hell no...

Its not a question of size , but at $5 million a year is he worth it? Last year he had a great year. This year he is at a 49pts/82 games pace (and for you advanced folks, CF%53.0; OZS%55). He doesn't play PK in his career and rarely on PP this year. Is that what $5 million /year is in the NHL? I don't know the answer but seems rich to me.

Maybe he should start playing on the PK considering he has good defensive impacts and the Canucks have the worst PK in the league, eh? And you talk about him having a good year last year, but his last 3 seasons(so not his rookie year) He's averaging about 23 goals and 54 points per 82 games. In that span his 2.24 points per 60 at 5v5 ranks him 47th in the league, putting him ahead of guys like Svechnikov, Voracek, and Landeskog. So yeah, that's what 5M a year is worth, especially when you consider his defensive impacts as well. He's probably a tad underpaid tbh, hence why his contract is so enticing.

Dom L at the athletic does player cards, and based on the information(goals, assists, points, offense, defense, GSVA) has a market value. It has Conor Garlands market value at $8.3M.

Friedman doubled down on NJs interest in Garland on his pod today, and didn't mention any other teams. So lets see if Fitz can get anything done! 🤞

If you are expecting a Dman to cover both the shot and the pass on a 2-on-1 then there's a huge problem (hint: it's not the defender).

He messed up when he watched the puck and not his man, another common mistake this team makes while defending.

And a 4th round pick for a top 4 right handed Dman currently producing at over a .5 ppg pace??! What are you smoking?!?

It's nuts how recency bias works lol. Siegenthaler has had the greatest defensive impact the entire league this season among all defenseman. Guess who's 5th? In the entire league. Yep, the guy who apparently is only worth a 4th round pick. Imagine. The only D who have been better defensively than Sevo are Carlo, Pelech, Heiskanen, and Siegs. Not to mention he's having a career best year in counting totals as well.
