Exactly .

The difference is we save 3.7 mil to try to fix the real problem .

Need that extra $ for OEL now I see the logic.

If he hasn't signed by TDL next year you move him then. I didn't think that needed to be explained

Also Garland was a 4 plus year RFA signing on a great contract but we want to get rid of him too.

- VANTEL

Do we hold on to JTM this year for a PO push & leave it to decide next year?

Is his value higher now or next year as a rental?

Is next year going to be any different than this year being we have improved enough based on the current line up?

I don’t see us substantially improved even if Petey & Boeser get on track. Pod & Hog will have too much pressure on them to be the difference. The D doesn't have any more potential.

The make up of this roster isn’t good enough.

Honestly, the way OEL is playing, if he can get back to a 30+ pts guy next season, but keep his defensive and physical game the same, he is worth every penny.

It’s all about what they want to fetch.

How do they want to build the roster?

Giving up the best player now has to fill holes & needs to get to a perennial PO team. Getting younger pieces makes sense given the age of the core group. It comes with saving cap space in the short term. In essence on the surface that looks like a step back. Everything hinges on that working & more than 1 piece in a return makes it a win. More size & speed is one get. Depth is lacking on the roster & especially on the farm it is a huge hole. Prospects are developing abroad & in college. The need for them to impact in the next year or 2 is a big step going forward. Elite prospects are not there.

In the meantime BB is developing a culture & a system that is finding success. It can only achieve so much if all of the core isn’t firing on all cylinders.

A retool is obvious imo & pressure is on to max out returns on trades to restock the system & the depth that is lacking. Picks are ok if 1sts & 2nds but real NHL talent in the top 6 is needed or the kids to make huge gains. Consistency game in game out indicates we have lots if work to do

yup.
I'm still saying that they trade Brock by the TDL.
Look to move Motte and Halak too if possible.
JTM is a ballsy move, i'm into it if the deal is right.

- dbot

He's on a team friendly contract right now. I doubt he skips possibly the last big payday of his career to help out the Canucks with their cap. There's no choice but to move him at some point.

I’m a big Miller fan, but yeah if you look at this situation with logic and no emotion, trading him now makes a lot of sense unless the offers are underwhelming and JR/Allvin feel like he could fetch a similar return next year as a pure rental.
- Nucker101

Agree & we will find out in the next number of weeks.

If we had BB to start the year, we are top 3 in the Pacific right now. The team has been so much better under him, that we would have 10 more points during the Green era of the season.

Vantel likes dmen who can score and lay the body. Which is totally fine. But that will lead to guys like Tanev being underrated and guys like Risto being overrated. But to be fair to Vantel, we all have our biases. When a player we don’t like has a bad game, we rant. When a player we like has a bad game, we look the other way. Just human nature.
- Nucker101

Can I just rant out of hand cuz my optimism tells me change is needed?

Definitely be in a better position, the first part of the season sucked the life out of this team.

I don't think 7x7 or 8x6 is impossible for his next contract, and he will be worth that cap hits. Probably has 5 good years out of the 6 or 7 he signs for.

If the make up of this team is not good enough why are you getting rid of your best players ?

This team is so soft and we want to get rid of our two most involved forwards. Well if Miller is moved at least we still have Motte to add some muscle. Oh wait we are moving him too.

The plus minus stat

So today that is a good stat and tomorrow it becomes useless again

- VANTEL

I've never really commented on +/- on here before. I do think when you have a larger sample size it becomes more useful. 600-800 games and you start to see a trend.

OEL needs better support from his partner. No knock on Myers but the right side is a big weakness.

That’s what you gleaned? Lol

Do you suggest trade JTM for other vets?
