Actually, it's not the worst of trading partners.
Lafreniere FOR Petry, Toffoli, 1st in 2022 (top 5 protected, or 2023), and Caufield, with MTL retaining 50% salary?
Firstly, I'm not sold that Lafreniere will be a star in the league, especially as NYR doesn't make sense to give him 18-20mins per game to develop into one.
Rangers could fill current needs for D and scoring winger, as well as a promising prospect and high pick...add in 50% retained salary...hmmm, makes at least me think... - mventres

This has nothing to do with today's subject, but I am in the fantasy league and was wondering if you were going to adjust the schedule before Feb. 7th. to the way it is now including the postponed games. Also, I wanted to know why you have some players in the center when they only play on the wings? |

If the Rags can get a second round pick for Alexa LafrenDaigle they should take it. That guy might be a bigger bust than Yakupov |

Yeah first page of comments shows NYR fans value the kid a bit too much. He's not worth multiple firsts from the worst team in the league, sorry - especially given what the next two drafts have in talent. Montreal's firsts for the next two years are effectively untouchable IMO.
Montreal will need to overpay to get him, but they do have a history of paying for who they think is the next French Canadian superstar (Drouin). I think with this Habs team a first is off the table, but a Toffoli+Chiarot+2nd or 3rd would make them think. Toffoli is worth a first rounder in his own right - young enough, plays both sides, and his contract is ridiculously favorable, whereas Chiarot fits a hole on the LD for a cup run this year, and anything else is icing. If I am the Rangers I wouldn't touch Petry's contract ever - if the regression is real, his contract would kill their cap management, and they already have two excellent top 4 RDs in Fox and Trouba. |

I could see a scenario where NYR target Chiarot as a rental + Romanov as the long term piece (giving Shesterkin a countryman to work with in the trenches) and to clear the logjam send out D Miller + Ragnarsson’s rights to the LA Kings for Turcotte.
You’d effectively be using your surplus on the wings and the blue line to resolve your long term question mark at the Center position and you’d still have Kravstov to move for pieces or futures. Which, I’d gamble that Georgiev+Kravtsov could bring back the Vegas 1st Rounder from Buffalo… |

There you go. The two biggest Ranger haters on the site agree that a Ranger player is a bust. Can't get more definitive.

I'd say the comments on the first page with crazy trade offers were the ones made by Pens and Wings fans.
The fact of the matter is that regardless of what Ek writes to get clicks, the Rangers have no room next year to ship out a player on an ELC and take back a player making over $4M plus others.
If Lafreniere can't make the switch to RW, then maybe they'd have to think about moving him. But, I'd be shocked if it was this season. He's already doing alright away from the puck and is starting to figure things out. |

Toffoli + Chiarot + 2nd or 3rd for Laf would be the worst trade in league history
This kid was the 1st overall pick, and he’s like 20 years old. Toffoli and Chiarot??? Seriously?
Suzuki + Caulfield + three 1sts would be a far less ridiculous proposal than this

You know, an upgraded blue line.
Forget the fact that our blue line is the envy of quite a few teams right now and we are set back there for about the next decade. - Tonybere
Things can change in a hurry in the nhl. Every year there is a team or teams that think they are set and then injuries hit on d. Agree though Rangers need depth up front more than help on the back line.
As far as being set for 10 years on d. No one is. |

Lots are delusional about the value of Lafreniere to Montreal. 34 points in 2 seasons, Toffoli 69 in 2 seasons. Say no more, even up at best. |

Both Kakko and Lafreniere have been busts so far. Either could turn it around, but isn't promising at this point. |

Laf isn’t getting moved.
His 5v5 Play is actually really good. He just gets 3rd line minutes and zero pp time essentially. He’s underwhelmed but he will be a 60 plus point player in a few years |

"But he was the first pick overall!"
Pretty sure 2020 is gonna be like the 2014 draft where the German who went 3rd overall is the star of the draft |

Yeah top 3 prospects this season will be immediately better than Lafrenière, and MTL is getting one of those, so you are absolutely incorrect. You get that deal, trust me, Montreal has overpaid. We aren't that far removed from Nolan Patrick or Nail Yakupov, and the Rangers don't need another LW. Heads outta sand. |

Golden Knights are laughing…and will be for years. Rangers blew that shot a superstar Center |
