How does a player who for years coasts around the ice for shifts, periods, and game get to be the 2nd all time franchise points leader, all time PP point leader, 7 time all star, 2 time top 5 Hart trophy finalist? - MJL

Claude is one of the all time individual performing Flyers! I think most folks would agree.
Some of us would not rank him as high in the leadership category.
Itâs a difference of analytics vs the eye test. This game is not always played on paper or spreadsheet. - Hosher12
More of the same from you. No substance. Giroux racked up those point totals and those accolades on the ice. Not on paper or a spreadsheet.

Pat Verbeek with his background with Yzerman would've been a good choice also.

The narrative that the Flyers have not done well is due to Giroux's lack of leadership is just false. The reality is that the franchise let him down and wasted the career of one of the best players in franchise history. |

What no laugh emoji? You have your narrative, I have my opinion.
I do agree the organization did let him and the fans down because ultimately the management is most responsible to make those decisions.
See we can agree unless you want to find an issue with me agreeing with you. |

What I have an issue with is your opinion that you really haven't supported in any manner. It started with the Recchi comparison and went down hill from there. As I expected it would. I think we're done here. Or at least I am.

And how do you "rank" leadership? What about Giroux tells you he isnt a good leader?
People put too much stock into little things they cant measure. Even the C and the A are meaningless. The "Captain" of a team is really nothing more than a face. A leader leads, they dont need letters own their jerseys. Teams often have many guys without letters who lead in their own way. Giroux leads by example. This isnt a movie. There is no vocal guy who is going to stand up and inspire this team to be a contender.
The C is really nothing more than a guy who is allowed to speak with officials about calls and not get an unsportsmanlike penalty and serves as the Face of the leadership group.
The Leaders in the Flyers locker room regardless of Letters are Giroux, Hayes, Couturier, Braun, Laughton, Atkinson, Brasssard, Yandle. The Vets leads. |

The âCaptain Comfortâ comments. If we attack him for not being what he was 4 or 5 years ago, whereâs the line? In my opinion, Giroux should be untouchable in terms of criticism as a leader. - SuperSchennBros
It is Captain Comfortable. Get it right.
Why should he be untouchable as a leader?

He has also wasted his own career by not asking to be removed years ago. He is complacent as can be. That is the reality as well.
Is the organization letting ex selke down as well?

Most, if not all, the criticism of Giroux I keep seeing around here is flat out asinine.
Itâs not Claude Girouxâs fault that:
The Flyers have rarely had quality goaltending during his career
That the team never committed itself to the full rebuild it badly needed by 2014
That the organization has not drafted a quality center since taking Couturier in 2011
That their one top 5 pick was a complete bust
That Chuck Fletcher is a lousy GM or that Chuckâs handpicked coached crapped the bed
The NHL is not the NBA where adding one or two superstars can completely turn a team around (see Oilers, Edmonton). It is a team sport and only once in a lifetime players like Orr, Gretzky or Lemieux can do what many folks here want Giroux to do.
Claude Giroux doesnât get nearly the respect he deserves. IMO, heâs the 5th best player to ever wear the orange and black behind only Clarke, Lindros, Parent & Howe. |

As the captain does he bear any responsibility for the constant slow starts year after year? Or the multiple horrendous losing streaks this team has endured?
Lets be clear this has nothing to do with his talent and skill. That speaks for itself.

Giroux has been their best player during these last 2 long losing streaks, what else do you want from him? As far as the slow starts, thatâs on the coaches. Giroux has no power to bench players or scratch them. Ask yourself why, under coaches like Keenan or Hitchcock, the Flyers always came out ready to play? The answer is that they knew their asses would either be glued to the bench or in the press box if they werenât ready to go all out.
The failures of this team over the past decade are on management, not the captain. |

So as the captain you are saying he bears no responsibility. Understood. There are things a captain can do to get his team going. You know this.
Again it has nothing to do with him being the best he player per say. Both are separate issues imo.
I also think Poulin and def Primeau had a hand in that as well. They didn't like either coach. The captain was the buffer and made sure the coaches message was getting across. Cant keep blaming the coaches when he has had how many?
