Rangers have all 3 of their retention slots available and much cap space to use for the rest of this season. I wonder if Drury will act as a go-between for trades and retain?

I dont see the need for the Rangers to acquire a winger like Garland who is signed long term close to 5 mil a year, he's signed until 2026

I know everyone is gonna say that Vancouver would have to retain but I don't see them doing that

- jimbro83

They likely wont retain on Miller either.

If we were totally out of the playoffs, Id say, yes for sure... use the cap, eat some money, get a load of draft picks. However thats not the case.

At that point it comes down to... would you rather keep Strome or let him walk and bring in Miller?

I don’t think it’s impossible for the Rangers to be buyers and take on salary for an expiring contract in a separate deal. Would help ease the blow of all the picks/players they may trade. Don’t think they will do any favors for an Eastern Conference team though. STL, Col, Edm maybe.

Miller is much better right now. He's got Strome's production and much better in being 2 way. I don't think it's really a discussion IMO

Trade for Miller than put it on Strome, how bad do you want to come back to New York. Help us out on the next contract

But you have to consider Strome's value to this team. Yes hes not as good defensively, but who takes Strome's spot on the PP? Hes clearly a big part of the leadership core.

Miller didnt take off til he got to VAN, that doesnt mean he will maintain that production with the Rangers.

Personally, I think the focus for this team needs to be on the 3rd line. A complete gut and redo.

Miller is more than capable on the PP. I agree with you that there no guarantee he'd maintain his production here.

I'm fine with just upgrading 3C, but if the choice is Miler or Strome, I'm taking Miller.

Miller would be on the 2nd PP unit. Who is going to take Strome's spot on the RW making those passes to Zib and Panarin?

Sorry but I dont believe in ruining the chemistry of a team for a 2 year rental.

I think you could try a number of players there. I really would try Laf there. Besides, having Miller would improve PP2, which is pretty vital cause sometimes we struggle if PP1 can't do anything.

there is actually no such thing as PP2, the way these guys work, they dominate the first 90 seconds of every powerplay whether they score or not

If we got JT, wouldn't mess with it this year, it's next year you'd have to make the decisions.....

I think if the Rangers acquired Giroux

Giroux becomes #1 center on PP1, he's a ridiculously good faceoff man

Zibinajed takes the left point, Fox on right point

Kreider at his usual spot in front of the net and Panarin roaming around

I do believe that Strome gets bumped to 2nd unit if they acquired Giroux

now if they acquired JT Miller, I think Zib stays as top center on PP1

Miller could give a lefty handed look on the powerplay that Strome doesn't

it's 50/50 whether Strome or Miller would stay on PP1

I definitely think Zib, Kreider, Panarin and Fox are on PP1 no matter what

I'm actually interested in getting Giroux. You wonder what his next contract is going to look like. There's little chance he can match his current salary at his age, though I could still see him in the 5-6 million range.

I think you either leave it alone and let Giroux center his own PP or you redo the whole thing.

My redo look would be.
Kreider, Zib, LAF, Schneider, Fox (It should still function the same way with Zib set up and Kreider down low, LAF and Fox doing the facilitating, Schneider with the blueline shot)
Panarin, Giroux, Strome, Jones, Trouba (Panarin takes back his left point slot and stays with his favorite feeder Strome, Jones sets up, Giroux distracts, Trouba bombs)

These are essentially the even strength lines.
