I think you either leave it alone and let Giroux center his own PP or you redo the whole thing.
My redo look would be.
Kreider, Zib, LAF, Schneider, Fox (It should still function the same way with Zib set up and Kreider down low, LAF and Fox doing the facilitating, Schneider with the blueline shot)
Panarin, Giroux, Strome, Jones, Trouba (Panarin takes back his left point slot and stays with his favorite feeder Strome, Jones sets up, Giroux distracts, Trouba bombs) - aecliptic
If they got Giroux, he'd go on PP1, the only problem with PP1 one now is that they lose the initial faceoff like 40% of the time, it would improve to 60% of the time with him

I just feel like if Strome is off PP1, it may do more harm than good. I dunno... |

maybe ultimately this will be why they don't acquire JT MIller or Claude Giroux
both of them are underutilized if they don't get PP1
they didn't use Keith Yandle or Eric Staal correctly after acquiring them at the deadline
they definitely used Martin St Louis perfectly
gonna be interesting to say the least how this transpires |

I think a lot of our problems in 5v5 play is the lack of the reliable 3rd line. How many games do we end up playing 3 lines for essentially half the game? Guys getting double shifted left and right. Giving up leads can be a direct cause of this because guys are getting tired.
I feel like a move for Giroux should be the last, not first trade we make. Which is why I was hoping theyd do a couple during the break. At the very least for a LHD, we KNOW thats a problem. |

I don't feel like Strome is a fluke or that he hasn't proven he can be productive. However, I feel like there are about 100 guys that Panarin could cook with. I don't think you have to move heaven and earth to make sure Strome stays on PP1. Any unit with Panarin and Fox on it will do just fine.

why in the world would we mess with our PP1? if we could bolster the pp2 and give it closer to equal time then great. Giroux or Miller or whoever will go on whatever PP they are told to and be fine with it |

Also, I feel like if our PP lines were in some way similar to our even strength lines, it would help us at even strength. |

Why are we so worried about pp1? If my choices are keep PP! as is, but not get anyone or maybe PP1 is slightly worse, but we are better at even strength and on pp2, I'll take the second option. Successful teams always look for improvement constantly. There's really nothing saying that getting JT or Giroux doesn't even make PP1 better along with the other things.
Not acquiring someone who can help our team because of a worry that PP1 might be affected I think is foolish.

Giroux would probably be the best faceoff guy we've had since Messier

I just think you leave the #5 PP alone, and bolster the 2nd PP unit. Theres a reason why we hardly use it. Chytil? LAF? Kakko? Goodrow? You throw Giroux in there and its a whole different entity. Now theres a reason to play them.
Also, think about how many times guys on the 1st or 2nd line are drawing penalties. Now you gotta roll all of them out there again for a PP. Now, you have a 2nd PP thats a legit threat because Giroux is out there to take the faceoff. We can gain possession, attack and retain and PP1 can come on to the ice with the puck already in the offensive zone.

It would be interesting if the Rangers/Flyers make a deal. They have made a substantial deal since the Lindros trade 20yrs ago. I still cant see them helping us. |

has anyone noticed how well Brett Howden is doing
Vegas has gotta make space very soon, Rangers should look into reuniting Karlsson with the coach that made his career - jimbro83
He is having himself a decent respectful year. LV knows how yo utilize him and he started to finish his chances. Which he created while in NY as well. |

Giroux has a full NMC. So if the 2 sides agree to split in the off-season, theres no reason for the Flyers to hold onto him and let that asset go to waste. However, Giroux has 100% control over what team he goes to and theres not a lot of teams with the cap space to take on his contract. |
|
|
|
For nearly a decade we couldn’t score on the PP, now we have the 5th best PP and we want to change it. Makes complete sense |

So your thinking is its the Rangers or bust? It always amazes me how teams manage to pull of fitting payers under the cap one way or another. |

Not at all, the Avs supposedly are very interested. However Giroux carries an 8m cap hit, theres maybe 1 or 2 teams (one of them being the Rangers) that can manage that without having the Flyers absorb the max 50%. Thats not to say that a team wont try and someone else could very well end up with him. However he would be a perfect fit here but its not THE most important thing the Rangers need to address. |

the discussion is, if we acquired JT MIller or Claude Giroux WOULD THE RANGERS CHANGE IT?
you continually think over and over that what we say here has an effect on what happens

But I think that cap goes back to normal after the deadline is over… I dont think we get to keep it til the playoffs. |

the reality is that they are probably gonna add about 8 million more in cap
but our competition certainly has their hands full in taking on some players

don't underestimate Tampa, they will find a way to put some people on LTIR so they can load up for the 3 straight year |

So Vegas doesn't have too many options to make room for Eichel (who skated without a non-contact jersey yesterday); looks like Dadonov (another year left at $5 mil) and Smith (expiring contract) will be moved. |

interestingly their last game Dadonov led their forwards in icetime
showcasing?
I feel like they don't want to trade Smith

that's why they traded for that Seabrook contract
trading for injured players who will never play again to take advantage of LTIR is such a crock of poop
