Remember back in the day when they still played at the Aud. They had these party tickets you could buy in the Aud Club and have drinks and food before the game. Fun times - Buff36
Loved the bandits back in the day before I moved. I am pretty sure I was at most of the championship games. Always was a great time and the announcer always made it a riot…. Off the top of my head… “what time is it….” “Let’s go bandits”, and didn’t they do the box chant too?
Rivers and Petey touch on this on one of their episodes. It was a while ago so unfortunately I can't reference it. Essentially PK came into that room and the vets weren't very keen on how boisterous he was. Most of these guys are shut up and play and answer the questions you're asked.
That's a mentality that has long ago left the NFL and NBA. Unfortunately the NHL is still stuck in that until you get more guys like PK trying to change the game. - TheSabresTaco
It's one of the reasons I like hockey
Can't stand loud mouth look at me people
Shut up and do ur job

Probably not to the level I had before, as I just don’t have the time to dedicate in the same way.
I will say there seems to be some nice pieces within the organization, I just don’t know if it’ll come together the way we need it to. - HonkFortheGoose

This mentality needs to go.
Why even have goal songs and horns and sirens then?
They should just skate back to the bench and/or center ice and just ready for the next faceoff. - ImThatGuy
I think Sean McDermott, who is still closer to the old school mentality than not, said it best. Getting to this level is really hard, you need to be able to enjoy the success.

But if you think that's why the NHL isn't on pace with NFL/ NBA - Anderdog
There's a few reasons why the NHL isn't on pace with the NFL/NBA
One has to do with the TV experience. Filming a hockey game let alone a NHL game is extremely difficult and the TV experience for the casual viewer is awful. In fact is hurt the product more than it helps IMO.
Also for casual fans, I would be willing to bet they couldn't pick star players out of a lineup. The NHL does do a horrible job of marketing their star players.
Diehard fans aren't what will make the NHL more money, it is brining in more casual fans.
Until they do that, the NHL will never be a top league.

Among numerous misteps, the NHL are second class citizens to the other big 3. The salary cap is the only proof you need. The best player since Gretzky gets paid the same money as a great, not elite, cornerback. He gets paid 10% of a top MLB slugger or pitcher. He's not even within the top 100 celeries in the NBA.
And a lot of that has to do with marketing in general. Kids and young adults want to like guys. They want them to speak to them, per se. Go find someone in your life that doesn't like the NHL. Ask them to name 3 active players. Good luck.
They're (frank)ing boring milquetoast. Anyone with any semblance of personality is deemed a cancer. you want to grow the game, you need to market the players. And no one gets excited by normal (frank)ing cheerios.

I agree
Also doesn't cross racial barriers as NFL/NBA
It still is a predominantly white male sport
For East coast
Yes girls go but how often have taken 4 girls together going to a game

There it is! Man those games were fun. I had inaugural destroyer season tickets too. That was pretty fun too… and didn’t the destroyers owner want to buy the Sabres and got mad and moved the team when he couldn’t?

Golf Hardly does anymore.
They had a black male star in Tiger and let him go and used it to their full advnatage.
Many golf purists(Old white guys) again called Tigers antics unacceptable and not good for the game.
Tiger may be the most influential athlete we have ever seen to grow a game.

what does race have to do with being systemically (frank)ing boring?

Growing the game - Anderdog
Oh I see what you mean. While valid in the sense that the other three have a much larger 'minority' base, it's still possible to market your game across those lines. They just haven't. Because they're bush.
