If Giroux decides he is not waiving his no trade clause, that starts an entirely different set of issues for Fletcher. Do you even negotiate with him?
If Giroux does waive, he should garner a nice return. If I am the Flyers, any NHL player brought in, I want cap certainty for at least two years. That means signed for two more years. If picks, so be it.
Claude Giroux will sadly go down as a league respected player whose team never got it together.

2010 Olympics - he was in his 2nd full season and had just put up 27 points in 42 games. Obviously not even considered. They won gold without him.
2014 Olympics - Canada had Crosby, Tavares, Bergeron, Toews, Getzlaf down the middle. All in their prime. Giroux was not better offensively than Crosby and Tavares and not better in shutdown roles like Bergeron, Toews, Getzlaf. Babcock also preferred actual wingers rather than converted centremen. So guys like Perry, Benn, Nash made the list. They won gold again.
2016 World Cup - he must have been self-promoting because Giroux made the team. Still behind Crosby, Tavares, Bergeron, etc...so Giroux only played 1 game. They won gold without him.
Good player. But nobody once ever said I can't believe Giroux isn't on this team...
All true. 2 ways to look at it. Canada had more depth then what was needed on those rosters. He could be viewed as a top tier player who was edged out a little by other top tier players mentioned above.
Or, he is not as close to those other players mentioned, just good enough to pile up points in mostly meaningless games.
The only thing I agree with is the notion of changing opinions because of standing out in an all star game where the players are basically playing casual, not challenging defensively.

"Many out there are saying that Philly needs to follow the Minnesota Wild model that Bill Guerin has perfected."
I haven't heard anyone saying this.
The Wild are fluking a decent season.

Eks point was that Giroux was overlooked because he wasn't a big self-promoter. Not true. He was overlooked because he was never good enough for those 3 winning Team Canada rosters. Pretty simple.

CG could help Colorado but for what price? Maybe Newhook? - Tee56
I'm going to resist being an Internet Richard and just say, think about that for a minute. The day Newhook was picked the plan was for him to take over for Kadri at 2C. Newhook is 10-6-16 in 34 games and has looked completely like he's ready to take that job including being sound defensively. At the same time Kadri has played at a level where there isn't a chance in hell the Avs can sign him. So they're going to trade the planned 2C on an ELC for a 34 year Claude Giroux? Does that make sense in any world?
Also, every year we hear about these great returns that rentals are going to get. Then we see Hall go to AZ for less than anyone predicted, Karlsson go to SJ for less than anyone predicted, et cetera, et cetera. I really, truly do not think the Flyers are getting a 1st and a top prospect for a couple months of Claude Giroux.
And, to be clear, I'm not saying the Avs won't trade for Giroux - I think it's entirely possible. Sakic and Bednar would love to have another right shot Top 6 forward. I just don't think there's any possible universe where they give up Alex Newhook to get him.

The fact you compared the Flyers to the Wild says it all.
To become good again the Wild had to buy out (the true sign of terrible management) the older guys on bad contracts, which were mainly signed by the FLYERS CURRENT INEPT GM!
