The plan to accomplish all of that is being hashed out as we speak. Sources indicated to The Athletic that the club’s hockey operations leadership group held their first, collective high-level planning meeting on Tuesday.

Rutherford-led hockey clubs have traditionally been at their most successful when the hockey operations group has leaned on a big tent approach to decision making — see the early part of his Pittsburgh Penguins tenure as an example — and that’s what he’s attempted to build in Vancouver. It’s a diverse group and a large one, which is in stark contrast with what came before.
