"mjl rules" state you aren't allowed to change your pov or opinion, and you can harp on the original opinion for eternity.
that's the point. - Robert's Plant
Nah, not at all. Everyone changes their opinion from time to time. So there are two main points. What I take issue with is when someone routinely changes their opinion after facts are known and then insinuates that they knew it all along and that's what they said in the past. Secondly, if you're going to call someone out, be accurate. The poster who attempted to do so with me was completely inaccurate. I was against the signing of Yandle from the get go. |

Sure I did. The same point that numerous other Flyers fans are making that is painfully obvious. To all but you and another poster apparently. |

https://theathletic.com/3...ay-lightning-scouts-life/
A cautionary tale about how a good GM listens to his scouts even when he may not agree. Then defers to their expertise because they are the ones "on the ground".
Yzerman had taken defensemen with his first three picks of the draft, including Tony DeAngelo in the first round, but told scouts he wanted to focus on size that year, feeling like his team had been pushed around a bit. Tampa Bay was due to take a forward, however, and Point — a 5-foot-9, 160-pounder from Calgary — was among the higher-rated guys left after his stellar junior career in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Yzerman, thinking Minnesota would take Point, traded a seventh-rounder to the Wild to move up one spot to get in premier position. They were on the clock, with three minutes to pick.
Before Yzerman called it in, he looked down the table and asked scout Brad Whelen to come over.
“I’m like, ‘Holy smokes, what do I do?'” Whelen recalled recently.
You see, Yzerman may be a Hall of Famer, but it was Whelen, 47, the area scout in Western Canada, who likely knew Point the best. Whelen saw Point play countless times, wrote up reports, interviewed him and met his family.
“What do I need to know?” Yzerman asked.
“Well,” Whelen said, admittedly nervous. “He’s not very big. Not all that strong. I’d say he’s more quick than fast.
“But I do know one thing. When it all matters at the end, he’ll be the one there.”
Whelen walked back to his seat. The Lightning took Point with the 79th pick. Point, of course, has turned into one of the top 10 players in the world, a catalyst for back-to-back Stanley Cup championships. Teams mortgage their future for a No. 1 center, overpay in free agency. Tampa Bay got theirs on day two of the draft.
“It’s a day I’ll never forget,” Whelen says.

You wanted Yandle over York before the season started - Fopa21
Honestly, that is not my recollection. I recall MJL saying that a vet like Yandle being brought here to play meant it was highly unlikely that he would be 7D (in those days we were not talking about the streak so much). He would take time away from York.
He was not saying that in a + way. |

1. Cherry picking such dramatic successes may be misleading. I would be more interested in knowing why Point slipped so low across all teams.
2. Jeez, talk about freewheeling. If they made a movie about NHL mgmt, it would be called Slapdash |

And I didn't think York was quite ready and saw Yandle as a placeholder. This was also before I knew Ellis was hurt. That changed everything.

Morning everyone. Did you enjoy the game last night? - hello it's me 2050
About as much as a whiffle ball bat to the testicles. Actually that would have woke me up. I nodded off late in the first and woke up somewhere in the 2nd. I NEVER fall asleep watching hockey. |

I know, I know. My comment was in general about the draft process. I mean, you need the last few minutes before your pick to seek affirmation about a player from one of your own scouts? Didn't you have the entire summer to prepare? |

The poster is 100% incorrect. I was debating with a number of posters including Pete Richards in the past off season that I was unhappy with the Flyers signing vets such as Brassard and Yandle because they were taking away an opportunity for players such as Frost and York to make the team in camp. - MJL
That was not the discussion and you have been proven wrong in the context of the conversation. But nice try. |

You wanted Yandle over York before the season started - Fopa21
I would say that this would put the final nail in the coffin of your credibility but you actually have to have some for that to be the case. Along with your delusional rants concerning Giroux.
Yandle was signed on 8/28. Here are my first comments on the move.
https://hockeybuzz.com/bo...p?thread_id=174015&page=1
"Bringing in Yandle is not a back up plan for York. It pushes York to the AHL. Having a vet player bought in as a 7th would be a backup plan. Yandle was brought in to start in the top 6. "
https://hockeybuzz.com/bo...p?thread_id=174015&page=7
"Yandle wasn't brought in as protection in case York isn't ready. He was brought in to play ahead of York. Pre ordaining that York would go to the AHL."
"York is not going to be hurt by being sent down but the point is he is not going to have a legit shot to make the team. I disagree with that. "
https://hockeybuzz.com/bo...p?thread_id=174015&page=8
"
They've already determined that he needs AHL time. Hence the Yandle signing. Unless he blows them away, which is unlikely, he's going to the AHL. The writing is on the wall. "
https://hockeybuzz.com/bo...?thread_id=174015&page=11
"I would've preferred that they brought in a vet for the 7th spot that could jump in if York doesn't play well or make the team. Morin is then the 7th. Instead of what they actually did in signing Yandle which pretty much guarantees that York won't make the team out of camp barring injury."

Bill If you had the keys to the car , do you draft Michkov knowing he wont be on roster for at least 4 more years? |

Wow, man. You're posting this in the comments section for a game from almost a year ago (9 February 2022).
My guess is that there's a slim chance to none that Bill ever responds to you here. Better try today's blog ( https://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=120395) or his Twitter: https://twitter.com/billmeltzer (or maybe PM him). |
