Marchand brings Tom Wilson with him to the hearing. Both are wearing Make Hockey Violent Again shirts n hats. The media explodes. NHL decides, well look at all this attention we're getting. Our numbers are almost as high as Cornhole. Jarry gets 5 games, Ball of Hate and Knuckle Dragger get extra time and focus in the next NHL promo. |

but a punch in the head in a scrum....happens 20 times in a game.
this is a garbage take. this wasn't a scrum. watch again. pens were skating away, everyone was in a stand still. marchand made his way toward the goalie, had make his way through the ref and two pens to deliver an unexpected headshot.
there was no scrum. what a little coward!

The league and NHLPA would never agree on it....but in addition to punishing the player they should explore punishing the team with something that hurts a bit more than losing a player for 5-10 games. Take draft picks away...and give teams an 'out' as it pertains to contracts for repeat offenders like this. You start hitting people in the wallet in a manner that means something and maybe things will 'clean up'. Money talks where nothing else does. Otherwise just let the goons back in to police the game.. because the way they are trying to hand out discipline now is a complete joke. |

McSorley got how many game for hitting Brashear with his stick? Wikipedia says he got (effectively) 23 games (rest of the season and playoffs). So unless the league is concerned not only with the outcome of that act and the injury and not prevention and detterence, Nose Face Killer should get 23 games. There's your precedence.
What he'll get? 5 because the league is run by morons. |

Ehhhh that's not quite the same thing. Marchand deserves a lengthy suspension, but he did not wind up and two-hand baseball-swing his stick into someone's skull |

Honestly, using your stick to intentionally clip a player in the head like that should lose you your job period. Imagine you took a stapler and smashed a colleague in the head in a desk job. Job lost, no questions asked.
Repeat offender, totally misanthropic, unacceptable behaviour. This should be in line with the Raffi Torres punishment IMO - but because of who it is, and his importance to that team, it'll be softball. And he'll do something stupid again, because he'll know he can get away with it. I can already predict a shameful response from this league. |

Marchand should probably be gelded and have his entire bloodline purged.
Foligno should be fired into the sun
Crosby is the greatest.
In person. It's minimum 5. Probably more, so grown men stop crying. |

That's the point, though: someone needs to be made an example of so the league doesn't hand out ad hoc discipline. A stick to the head is an absolute no-no. Harsh for 63 considering the force of his jab and that Jarry was wearing a mask? Maybe. But using a stick to retaliate needs to never ever happen again and, if it does, the offender needs to get his nuts in a sling for it. |

Why should the team have an out? This is Marchand's 4th contract with the Bruins. They knew exactly what he was capable of doing when they signed him. They should have no out. The suspensions for repeat offenders need to be more severe. Players getting suspended for an 8th time, the numbers of games shouldn't be in the 5-10 range, you really need to start talking about a quarter of the season, no pay. If you want to hurt the team, his cap hit still counts. Currently players suspended with no pay, do not count against the cap. If the team can't fit replacement player under the cap, they play with a man less, until he returns. |

My biggest issue here is the complete lack of a reaction by the Pens. Yes - the rat part 2 - should be suspended, but that Pens team is an absolute disgrace.
I did notice Rust attempt to toss an elbow at someone’s head then cross check a guy from behind, but when he had the chance to jump or at least challenge the rat he did nothing. I’d have a serious problem wit their lack of a response if I coached that team. - Joe Nardone
The ref was holding Letang, preventing him from dealing with Marchand earlier in the scrum. Had that not happened Letang would have engaged Marchand and it would not have escalated. The refs actually allowed Marchand to roam freely in a scrum at the end of the game he was losing, while trying to control everyone else. That pretty much guarantees he is going to do something stupid. Also, in post game interviews most of the other Pens players on the ice claimed to not see what happened (they do, after all, have a different view than us on TV or even in the stands). I am not sure if this is true or they just said this to avoid discussing the matter with the media.
In my opinion goalies should be more protected by the NHL in the same way that QB's are by the NFL. If Marchand did what he did to a skater instead he probably only gets 1-2 games or maybe 3-4 based on reputation, even though the skater is less protected and will probably incur a worse injury. Because it was to a goalie it should be 5 at least. |
