And you need a lot of quit in you to demand a trade while being team captain because your feelings were hurt over something completely unrelated.
I can do Vinny too if you'd like...glad we added such a hard worker to the front office - Takemedrunkimhome
Maybe didn’t feel working for somebody he didn’t like anymore. Oh surprise good sport players are emotional ! ( but yes I agree it was stupid)
Also not picking him for the Olympic was as stupid as not sending #99 in SO
Vinny is irrelevant for now, but I’ll keep that in mind thank you if he ever joins the fire tire

Yeah...the guy I want leading my team is a guy who quit on his team and demanded a trade while being team captain because his feelings were hurt his GM didn't pick him for the Canadian Olympic team. #leadership
In all seriousness I couldn't care less as it's only for the rest of the season but that will always be my lasting impression of MSL - Takemedrunkimhome
So the guy has a whole career of facing adversity, overcoming every obstacle on his way to a great career, he's seen as an amazing leader and competitor by his peers and your lasting impression is about him wanting to get traded he got in a fight with his boss?
Feel like you're focusing on the one negative aspect you could find of a great career and a great person.

that was denied by Lecavalier himself. he has no idea where that comes from. - fidopro
That's good. Part of me wanted to see it happen just so that when he got canned I could joke that at least Tampa was paying him longer than the Habs were (5 more years after this) |

Maybe this and maybe that. Definitely a bad look on him as a leader and will always be my lasting impression of him |

Kinda what I was getting at to… I mean also we are commenting from our Sofa drinking beer, while with all the he as done in his career, should desserve a bit more respect and given a chance
Even if I fully expect he going to be an assistant next year |

He was team captain. He got his feelings hurt over something unrelated to his job and the team he was supposed to lead. He demanded a trade.
People can spin it however they want but it's a bad look and a lasting impression for me. Takes a liftetime to build a reputation and a minute to destroy it.

i like the move. not because i think it will work, but because i think it's experimental and it gives them flexibility. you're 8-37 with a brand new management team. one of the luxuries you have that others don't is being able to experiment. you don't get many situations like this in pro sports. and since you know that these guys weren't ready to commit to a long-term coach right now, who was available that was willing to take this job for as little as 2 months?

As I said, it's interim for the rest of the year so I truly couldn't care less. Simply though that's my lasting impression of MSL. Thinking outside the box is a good idea when your box has the same 3 or 4 retreads in it and the box is locked with a french only combination |

Hey you never know, he might bring Tortorella with him as an assistant to help him out next year.
Torts has nothing but respect for Martin.

pretty harsh assessment imho, as I think even the best of people can make mistakes and grow from them, but everyone is entitled to their own take on things.

Nixon did a lot of things over a long career. People remember Watergate.
I value leadership greatly so what he did stuck with me and it's a pretty indefensible act |

He was team captain near the end of his career. How much runway was left in his career to grow from that mistake?
It was a purely selfish act, he abandoned the team he was supposed to lead. Like I said people can spin it however they want but it's pretty indefensible beyond "people make mistakes and can grow from them" which I think is the defense a parent gives when their teenage child cheats on a test |

I am happy they are trying something different for a few months. Let's see how St-Louis does, more than happy to give him the benefit of the doubt at this point, nothing to lose.
They can reassess the situation this summer and see what are the options.
Heard an interview with Lecavalier yesterday about St-Louis hiring (98.5 Sports) and how Luthor, Vinny and St-Louis know each other well and to not underestimate St-Louis.

I'm sure you can find something negative in every great leader, focus on it and blow it ouf of proportion.
I choose to focus on the big picture of what the man has accomplished.

I meant as a person and leader. and to be fair, unless I'm mistaken no one here has personally witnessed the relationship between St-Louis and Yzerman, so there might have been other aspects to consider for STL to make that decision. not saying it was the best one at the end of the day, but still.
but I don't need to convince you, and vice-versa, you have your opinion and that's cool, I just find it's a bit harsh is all.
and I fully disagree with the "defense a parent gives when their teenage child cheats on a test" thing, but oh well lol. |

Well he already showed in the USHL he can dominate terrible opposition.
Still... lots to like about that kid.

He's accomplished a lot, Hall of Fame career, awards, Cup, Gold medal etc. None of that means you pick him to lead your team without a full analysis of his history as a leader. And again a reputation takes a lifetime to build and a minute to destroy and he took his minute in my book.
Ignoring it or writing it off is something people do at their own detriment. Have you noticed nobody argued it or defended it...just swept it away as a one time thing or a blip on the rader? Fans gonna fan but it happened and it's an unforgivable action in my eyes when it comes to a TEAM |
