Or...let's look at the situation honestly and not through tinted glasses while refusing to be negative. Ignoring things because you don't want to acknowledge them is a poor strategy.
Might MSL get some guys to stop feeling sorry for themselves and play better? Sure. But human nature tends to be that people are self serving so if they haven't been achieving to this point and they know the guy cracking the whip has no long term power, it isn't hard to imagine guys choosing to tune him out rather than run through walls for a lost cause.
This hiring is the living embodiment of throwing poop at the wall and hoping it sticks. I don't care because it's only for the rest of the season to captain a sinking ship but I'm not going to pretend to ignore the obvious problems that may come with that short interim term - Takemedrunkimhome
it might be short term but I like Fido said, I have a feeling this will not be just an interim position for St-Louis

well, is it interim or not? if not, why not have signed him to a 3 year deal? - fidopro
I think they are selling it like it may be a done deal, but I suspect MSL already has a position in management ready and waiting... That is the plan. MSL in there to help give direction on what is really going on in the locker room, what can /cannot be fixed, and what needs to be changed.
But who knows, maybe he is better suited as coach, and these few months will indicate a change in the plan.
I just find it strange that MSL comes out of nowhere to be coach without some bigger plan at work. |

Then it's a dog poop hiring and I've already lost all faith in the new management team. If that's the case the Habs hired a (frank)ing peewee coach that is friends with the GM and that's (frank)ing pathetic and embarrassing |

I agree, unbelievable. but just with one answer, Hughes sold it. MSL is not there for 3 months. imho

Lecavalier was saying yesterday that St-Louis has been talking about coaching in the NHL for 10+yrs, that was a goal of his. I think his goal is to coach and the Habs open the door first. |

agreed 100%.
the only thing in their favor is that Habs will suck for 2-3 years, so MSL will have that time to learn on the job.
but that is still unacceptable for a pro team, THE Yankees of hockey, not my word, Hughes'.
even if he's a fast learner, coaches come in the league with decades of experience at different levels. this guy has a plan, watching hockey at home the past decade. câlisse!
I don't doubt his will, his character, his passion, his talent as a player... but come on. that is ridiculous.
if I was a season ticket holder, I'd cancel them on the spot. |

If your goal is to be an NHL coach, then perhaps taking time to learn how to coach at the professional level as an assistant or AHL coach might be a good way to go about it.
Being thrown in as a coach without experience, in perhaps the most intense media market in the NHL, seems short-sighted.
There has to be a greater plan than "let's see if this works." And hope for the best.
At least, that is what I have to believe. |

No experience at all. None. poop I was harder on some of the female GM candidates but they have world's of experience by comparison.
What part of my statement was inaccurate? They hired a peewee coach who got the job because he's friends with the management team. What part of that is inaccurate? |

dude, chill. I didn't say it was "inaccurate", but I think you are wearing glasses that are tainted with a bit of negativity... let's give the guy a chance, see where it brings the team. obviously a good hockey player doesn't automatically make a good coach, but that doesn't mean he'll be terrible either. my 2 cents.

Nixon did a lot of things over a long career. People remember Watergate.
I value leadership greatly so what he did stuck with me and it's a pretty indefensible act - Takemedrunkimhome

Guys it’s a hockey coach job, not neuro-surgery.
Pretty sure a guy with over a 1000 games in the NhL and one of the most respected player of era knows a system and how to run a practice |
