I'm glad all your chips are in with this loser hockey team. - DrMidnite I really wouldn't say that all my chips are in on this loser hockey team. I am basically a Flyers/hockey fan as opposed to a Philly sports fan, but I haven't given a penny to the Flyers since the 2012 playoff series against the Pens(were season ticket holders for 20 years). I'm just not going to become a fake sixers fan now cause ummmmm.....that would be fake. |

I don’t think it’s the sport they hate lol
Basketball rocks. Is the NBA far watered down from what it once was? Absolutely. But so is every other major sports league in this country. - hereticpride
I understand. I probably painted with a broad brush. |

I used to love basketball in the Bird/Erving days. All the way up through Jordan and Barkley. I hated Iverson and the whole attitude players like him brought to the game so I stopped watching for a good long while.
But now I watch all the time because we get to see a generational stud like Embiid on a nightly basis. He is so fun to watch and I love his whole attitude and demeanor. - MBFlyerfan
Yeah, I agree. I'm excited and wish the Flyers we're in a similar position.
Embiid reminds me of Lindros in the way he effects every aspect of the game when he is on the floor. |

So I see the Flyers continue down the path of more=better with the hiring of two more people in the analytics department. I'm curious to know if one of the hires, Cole Anderson, is directly related to Ian Anderson that is in charge of analytics for the Flyers? |

I understand. I probably painted with a broad brush. - DrMidnite The NBA sucks and is by far he worst league in pro sports. It's a bunch of catered to(babied) stars that decide where they are going to play and who they want to play with. It's a watered down mess with teams that aren't even .500 teams making the playoffs. Enjoy!! I'll be watching the winter Olympics and still enjoy the NHL playoffs when they come around(the NHL is a much more competitive league). The NBA playoffs blow until the third round cause there is no competition. |

Maxxing out your salary cap, paying top dollar to a coach you fire, and trading your #1 pick to produce a season like this would seem like a predicament. Fan attitudes like yours are why people say that Philly ain't a serious sports town. If this is no big deal to you, what is? - iamscore2day
I am not some masochist celebrating the current state of matters. But I thought I already explained (design/dysfunction) why this might be the only feasible way to go. Did you actually bother to read what I wrote?
Thing is: do you want to be entertained nightly with no thought about the contending future? Or do you want to win the cup? Because you cannot have both in the salary cap era.
If you prefer the former, your pov is consistent. We have a perspective disagreement. It cannot be resolved by discussion.
If you prefer the latter, we have an analytical disagreement. You will need to endure seasons like this, and hope for more of the same in the near future.
Whether such seasons come about by way of choice or ineptitude is kinda besides the point, unless ineptitude extends to two things:
1. drafting. The thing is though: if you pick high enough, your chance to be non-inept is much higher than picking middle to late. The %s see to that. So, ineptitude is self-correcting if the degree of ineptitude is high enough. Like this year, if repeated.
2. Or if ineptitude extends to player development. We can cross that bridge once we have some actual high end talent to develop instead of the Sanheims and Laughtons of this world. Get a new management if needed.

This is not your beer league team. You're not watching closely. There are plenty of websites that detail NHL systems. You've repeatedly blamed the wrong players on goals against when the player is following the system and his responsibilities. The Flyers cannot effectively play the system that they play. It's been going on for a season and a half. The previous coaches have not made the right adjustments and neither has Yeo. - MJL
what system can they play? |

Huh? Doesn't everything else hinge on this? If they planned to be a contender and bet heavily on it, that does not matter in assessing their ability to get us out of the mess? I did read all that you wrote especially the part about being "pleased" by this season. I think our disagreement on that transcends "analytical" and "perspective" levels. |

Athletes get paid what the market (dictated by owners) are willing to pay.
Sounds awful un-american to tell people how much they can earn.
I side with labor every time. |

I commented on the catered to/babied part. They get paid what the market will bear is something I agree with. But some of the babying stuff (see Red Sox a couple of years ago is absurd). I don't side with anyone "every time" BTW simply because any group can get things wrong. Individuals too. |

1. I already answered this part in the two points I wrote after the part you highlighted.
2. Are you sure, given 1?
3. If a tumor is caught early enough, one can feel the pain in the chemo and yet be pleased that treatment is on best possible path to root out the malignancy, yes? Thats where I am coming from.
4. The only reason one can continue to disagree with another person, and not have the reason for disagreement be some combination of perspective or analysis is if there are deficiciencies of exposition or comprehension or reasoning on the part of at least 1 person. Honestly, there are no other possibilities.
