Which one is cross-eyed mary? I am going with Dave Scott. - iamscore2day
I think you guys underestimate Dave Scott. He is probably one shrewd, savvy sob. He is not Al Davis or Norman Braman or Terry Pegula or Bill Wirtz |

1. I already answered this part in the two points I wrote after the part you highlighted.
2. Are you sure, given 1?
3. If a tumor is caught early enough, one can feel the pain in the chemo and yet be pleased that treatment is on best possible path to root out the malignancy, yes? Thats where I am coming from.
4. The only reason one can continue to disagree with another person, and not have the reason for disagreement be some combination of perspective or analysis is if there are deficiciencies of exposition or comprehension or reasoning on the part of at least 1 person. Honestly, there are no other possibilities. - PT21

Well, a young Al Davis I would take. All signs point to Dave Scott being a major clown. Only your hunches appear to say otherwise. I'll settle for objective facts. He hired a failure and is doubling down. That is enough for me to want to move on. |

I did not back read... did anyone else watch the USA- China game and see the massive amount of American and Canadian players on that team who became naturalized citizens to play on the Chinese Olympic team after being on their Bejing based ?KHL team..
Chris Chelios son became a naturalized Chinese citizen...
Think hard about that,
How much $$$$ for that..... |

I wish it were as cold as you make it sound like. Its frikking 55F here. I hate it.
Think of an analogy, simplified to get to the root of the matter. You and I have met up, and are discussing which restaurant to go and eat at.
1. We can disagree about whether its burger or bimimbap. That's a philosophical disagreement, based on matters of preference and taste.
2. We could agree it's a burger, and even agree about the fixings/details (rare/kind of bun etc), but disagree about what method to use to get to the best one of that kind in town. Google reviews? Yelp? Price as an indicator of quality? Neighborhood? That's an analytical disgreement, which is theoretically solvable by using a large enough sample of each of these methods, and using a score for each, agreeing to sum the score given by each of us, and then seeing which method wins. Data will rule out the possibility of discord resulting from philosophical perspectives.
3. We could misunderstand and believe there are other ways to disagree than the two ways above. All other disagreements really boil down to at least 1 of the two.

That's an analytical disagreement. Major clowns don't end up becoming divison heads of major corporations that are publicly traded. This is a "thought experiment", which cannot be done in reality, but use market logic:
major clown => bad performance by sector she/he/they are overeseeing => pressure by stock market/board to get rid of major clown => if no such pressure, no such clown.
DS, I suspect, may not be a d1ck, but rather a cock on the fare($)-whither-vane. |

In the case of someone like Eileen Gu, it is indeed $, but advertising $. The same sort that made Phelps apologize and Lebron kowtow.
In the case of Chelios son, I believe (to the best of my knowledge) it is simply maximimizing opprotunity. I do not know if you follow track, but do you remember Zola Budd, who made Mary Decker Slaney trip in the 1984 Olympics? She fled SA to emigrate to the UK to escape apartheid sanctions, and it seems to be really a variation of that.
I refuse to watch because I refuse to provide any legitimacy or $ to the CCCP. (I am sure they are VERY concerned about my stance -ha ha).

Huh? Doesn't everything else hinge on this? If they planned to be a contender and bet heavily on it, that does not matter in assessing their ability to get us out of the mess? I did read all that you wrote especially the part about being "pleased" by this season. I think our disagreement on that transcends "analytical" and "perspective" levels. - iamscore2day
Exactly. How can you ignore the ineptitude that put the team in this predicament. I guess by believing that a few high picks will correct all of that.

Dave Scott may not be a major clown in the business world but as a hockey exec in the realm of building a successful hockey team with the only metric that matters to fans, he is a major clown who has clearly been influenced by the wrong people. You lack context here. You must be a blast at parties.

Dave Scott was interviewed by the Hockey News for an article I read a few weeks back. He is a total clown that knows nothing about the game of hockey. He is strictly a bottom line business guy. His answers when it came to the actual game of hockey were completely vanilla. I mean, he admitted he knew nothing about the game of hockey when he took over his new position. Do you really need any more evidence than that? |

Oh, I see. Dave Scott must be good because a "major" corporation could never make a mistake in promoting executives. I am guessing you don't get out much, read much or invest at all.
BTW, I agree with the earlier posts that DAve Scott may be good at his corporate job but plainly knows nothing about hockey or the NHL. I still think your theory that "he has the job, so he must be good because Comcast is good" is the most naive thing I have read in a long time. |

Going to the game tomorrow against the Lightning. $25 tickets. The organ-i-zation is a joke, but I'm glad they're here. Can't wait to see them next year in a 5,000 seat arena (that isn't even finished yet). |

Do you ever, just for the sake of variety, try reading what the person wrote? I specifically pointed out publicly traded corporation, and even spelled out what the market logic of that prefix entails.
I feel if I detail the degree of exposure I have had in the business world, both in terms of working there myself, and the degree of familiarity with executives, it will seem like I am showing off, so I am afraid you will have to take my word, or use your imagination.
And with that, I will have to exit this subthread, because I feel we have both had the chance to make our points. |

Yes, but maybe for a guy who doesn't support the Sixers because of moral antipathy towards tanking, but waxes lyrical about the winter games, without being aware of the irony: asking for more would be futile.
