There are certainly positions where experience is valuable and then other positions where a fresh perspective can be a bigger asset than the same old thing. I'll refer you to the mockumentary 'Moneyball', where tried and tested scouting was going nowhere and hiring a fat nerd was the right approach.
Women haven't been historically hired for roles in management, so having experience is an unlikely feature. It's like needing ID to get ID. Tough to find a way in without someone giving you a chance. - micah555
Benning Bro fav Daniel Wagner wrote a nice piece about JR taking advantage of a market inefficiency- no NHL team interviews women for management positions, so the Canucks had access to candidates that normally wouldn’t be available. I have no idea if it will work out, but applaud that someone is actually stepping outside of the retread options philosophy. |

I don't know why people keep bringing up gender TBH. The Canucks have hired 6 first timers in upper management . Last time we hired three first timers . I guess doubling the chances doubles the odds of success or does it double the chances of failure?
People forget when we hired Benning he was the talk of the town back then and Linden was the golden boy to calm the media. Enter Allvin and Sedins .
Weisbrod was a horrible choice and we have replaced him with his associates Derek Clancey .
My opinion of Granato has to do with the job I seen her do in Seattle as head of scouting and yikes.
I see so many similarities between this new group and the one that just left.
When I see the names floating around that are mentioned in trades it looks no different to me than what Benning was trying to do. |

Fake News
Canada's Hayley Wickenheiser accused the United States of stomping on a Canadian flag in its dressing room. The charge was vehemently denied - "just so you know, that incident was fabricated," Ruggiero says to this day - and Wickenheiser later admitted that it was inaccurate. - henny1953
Just searched and nothing came up about Wickenheiser saying story was inaccurate. Help us out and find this story please. As far as Americans denying stuff... well... where do we start on that topic.

On a random note, I played dynasty mode with NHL2004 on PS2 and had St. Louis and Lecavalier as my stars for many Stanley Cups. I played so many years, I had to improve my own draft picks to keep the team on top. I wish Marty the best of luck, though he could sure use a major roster change, like getting a star goalie back. |

I know right... people in here who can only talk gender when you talk about these hirings think they are not narrow minded.
Meanwhile, Rutherford has himself set up pretty good right now. You question his group and instantly you are a sexist old white boy.

I think it was on SN a documentary about an hour long about the Canadian Women's hockey years. I do seem to remember HW smiling with a cigar in her mouth and full uniform saying she made it up as a rally call to the team. She smiled and said it seemed to have worked.

Well, they bring up gender because it's hugely novel to have women in roles that have been exclusively male. That seems pretty obvious. Just like having any underrepresented group in a position that they have been excluded from would warrant attention.
As for whether these specific people will succeed in their roles, that's impossible to know and even harder to really metric from the outside. Any large corporate organization has a ton of moving parts, so knowing exactly who does what isn't for us to know.
I'm expect we could do a tracking of years of experience in their role vs. new position chart and apply it to the entire league and their front offices over the last 20 years and I don't know that it would really prove anything with regards to these hires. |

Look for 10 pack of Zombie Grape or Zombie Green Apple. In a glass case below cash register. Comes in that foil bag with that weird zip lock feature. Hate those things. $75 for Wowzers. |

Oh boy. I think you give OBL way way too much credit while at the same time completely ignoring the will of the Afghan people and their culture.
Talk about euhemerism. - bloatedmosquito
Bullpoop. I'm fully aware of the history of the Afghan people from the days of Alexander the Great until present day. These are not the people responsible for 9/11...

Probably because there weren’t 315,234 pages discussing how inexperienced Derek Clancey was when he was introduced as JR’s first AGM hire? |

Interesting.
I've got more weight on what they did with Francis as he prob made/makes the majority of the calls with the info given.
I think it's great the Canucks group is very diverse. It doesn't mean it's going to work but it is great that there are many points of view from how they all were brought up with their experiences in organized sports etc. Hopefully it's the right combo if not the nucks can try again. |

Yup. said wife's at the cottage. Just me on my laptop and the boys are killing or being killed online. Hard to distinguish the yelling and screaming. ecstasy and/or anguish.
Its strong but it's manageable. And so clean. ANd to top it all off a great sleep awaits. |

Diversity is fine and yes overdue . But you don't binge hire to make up for years of mistakes.
I agree with Ruebey about Jennifer Botterill . I have seen enough of her to know she is great at what she does . Her dad's background kept her in the game and her finger still on the button.
I think Granato is the best female hockey player ever , next to Wickenheiser of course , but does not make her a great scout. Same as I don't think Sedins are a great choice.
I don't care if it is male or female , just make sure they know what they are doing and will be great at it.

But there was 315,234 pages when the Sedins were hired. Truthfully I never even heard of Clancey until a few weeks ago. He flew under my radar.
Again any single hiring would probably go unnoticed . Canucks have basically built their management group in the last three weeks. So of course there will be a lot of pages. |

Someone on Twitter asked if “would you walk naked in a mall for 2 minutes, for $20m” and I was “where do I sign up, would you like a helicopter or a flying squirrel added in”?
Just watching the women’s luge and if the question had been would you ride a luge naked for $20m I think my answer would be are you (frank)ing nuts? |

But there was that many pages discussing the hirings of past inexperienced people and how those mistakes shouldn't be repeated. Now people want to go off about people not having a problem with it in the past so they must be sexist if they have a problem with it now....
Or could it be that a few people here don't want to see the Canucks stack positions with very little NHL experience AGAIN.

That was me.
I'm not disputing Jordan Belfort. But every other character in the movie never existed. No , Donnie Azoff, Naomi Lapaglia, or FBI agent Patrick Denham. Made up.
Now some of the story is true to fact but once again, say it with me, euhemerism. |

Painfully, yes.
The article is full of bullpoop. They couldn't believe this man with his beard sitting in a cave could be such a threat? No one in the world knew more about Bin Laden than the CIA. He was their man they used to defeat the Soviets in Afghanistan.... he was educated at Oxford University and recruited at a Muslim university by the Americans. They knew how intelligent, resourceful, radically devoted and how dangerous he was. They didn't look at him as some peasant in a cave through the eyes of white ignorance.... what a croc of poop. That's like someone who raises Cobra's getting bit and then telling everyone he had no idea how deadly they were....
Who in their right mind would think the CIA wasn't aware of his potential after the first attack on the World trade center only 5 or 6 years after he defeated the Soviets?
People only buy this corporate media crap when they are poorly informed. - boonerbuck
