Maybe they could trade Chara and Greene and let Salo and Aho get some big league experience the rest of the year. I thought Salo looked pretty good in his time with the big club.
Maybe Parise can get traded. Not sure anyone on the 4th line would get traded.

You're right though, they do need to get younger. They also need a true sniper. Someone who can put up 30-40 goals a season consistently. I know Lee has hung 40 in one season and 34 in another, but he's typically in the 20-30 goals a year range. Speed is another area of need. This team is just way too slow. Opponents are just blowing right past our guys.

It seems like other teams have figured out how to beat the Isles now. There's enough film to where it's not new and other coaches can game plan against them.

*Edit - You know who I'd really like to get is Alex DeBrincat. The kid can skate, score and plays defense. Still really young and has one more year left on his contract.

My guess is that Parise and Greene are 100% goners. Chara too, if anyone wants him. Clutterbuck is a pending UFA and can always come back in the offseason, but I'm not as confident they'll move him. Especially if they want him back.

I don't really see who else can get moved, realistically. Varly and Bailey could be offseason moves.

I think the long-shot candidate to get moved could be Mayfield. Yes, he's got a fantastic contract and has been a big part of the playoff runs. But he's going to be 30 when next season starts and heading into the final year of his deal. He'll be looking for the one "big" payday of his career after that. I'm extremely skeptical that signing a bottom-pairing defender at age 31 to a market-value deal is a smart move. If they can get good value for him at the deadline or over the summer....I think that's the kind of deal I'd pull the trigger on.

If full, I’m sure the atmosphere of the joint will be fun.

Buuut the players might not be so keen.

There’s a zero % chance they trade mayfield.

You know, in all seriousness, you can mock this arena all you want and say it's an embarrassment, but will the Coyotes even fill this place?

I know they will because it's in Tempe (home of ASU) so it's closer to Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tucson. But I've been to a bunch of games over the years and the arena doesn't fill up. I've seen nights where there only maybe 5,000 people in attendance.

It's going to end up being about 3500 seats after the retrofit to meet NHL standards.

It honestly wouldn't be so bad if they had an approved arena in place and just needed a place to play until it was finished. That I get. It happened with Ottawa when they were an expansion team and I feel like there was another team that played in a very small arena temporarily when they were building an arena. But the fact that Arizona doesn't even have a project approved makes this a total joke. Last I saw (which was a Craig Morgan report in mid-January) was that the Coyotes didn't have the amount of votes they needed to pass the project

They're the NHL's welfare-child. They're going to play in that clown-show of an arena and sit back and collect all that HRR money from all the other teams who aren't run like a three-ring circus.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Coyotes organization is a total sh!t show. It's been mismanaged for decades now. Moving into the ASU arena without even having a plan in place for another arena is just so Coyotes.

I honestly wouldn't have any problem with it if they weren't collecting the HRR money from the rest of the league. The players are essentially funding a large part of the Coyotes revenue-sharing while the Coyotes do the absolute bare-minimum just to scrape by.

Even though Bettman has supported the Coyotes until he was red in the face, I have to imagine this may be their last chance. Get a new arena and they'll stay in ARI for the foreseeable future. But if they can't get an arena deal done before this 3 year stint at ASU is over....the league might force them to sell and relocate.

Ironic as I kinda thought Greene until the last 2 games was pretty solid. Chara has been abysmal all season but Greene gets the short leash unless he is hurt.

He may be hurt or Trotz may just start giving the two dinosaurs a rest every now and again to keep them fresh. We're pretty much out of the playoff picture at this point and the traded deadline is about 5wks away, so it might also be showcasing Aho a little bit for a trade as well.

I don't know if you watched the Beanpot final last night but Logan Cockerhill can absolutely FLY. I am not sure if at this point the Isles still even own his rights but he really looks fantastic. We drafted him forever ago in the 6ht or 7th round.. so might be a UFA when finally done this summer.. not sure.

Not sure if this is a definitive answer to your question, but the fact that he shows up on this website makes me think his rights are likely still owned by the Islanders.

I think it might be an Anders Lee type of situation. If he chooses to he can wait until this summer to become a UFA so we have a couple of months after his college season is done to get him under contract... or before obviously.

He's a senior, so he can go anywhere. He's actually a 5th-year senior, so he'll be a UFAi if he wants to be one. But his offensive production has pretty much declined every year since his freshman season. Maybe he has a future as a 4th line energy guy, but that seems about where his ceiling is going to be.

This HAS to be their last chance. I'm not a big Bettman guy, but he has done everything possible to keep them in Phoenix. If they screw this up, say hello to Houston or Quebec and goodbye to Phoenix. If the Coyotes were to actually relocate, that would also probably be the end of the Tucson Roadrunners.

Question: Do the Islanders win tonight?

Buffalo is only 2 points behind us. Could be an interesting game.

It'd almost certainly be Houston, if they do move. They finally have the conference balanced out with 16 teams each and they're not going to throw that off to put a team back in Quebec. Kansas City has no interest, so Houston seems like the only plausible place to stick a team.

Don't think we're going to be bad enough to eclipse Montreal and Arizona for that one. Maybe everything falls apart and we end up in the 3-5 range and win the lottery, but with all the games in hand we have on everyone below us that seems unlikely too.
- Harambe

Just like years in the past we will win games near end of season and lose any chance of getting a high pick .

That makes sense. Quebec would love to have a team again, but placing a team there means moving someone to the Western Conference...........and all the teams to choose from are in the Eastern Time Zone.
