"By all reports". Who's reports? By the prospect models being thrown around on twitter he has a 30% chance at being an NHLer, with a 2% chance at being a star. And both have declined since his draft year. Seems like if he ever makes the NHL he's nothing more than a bottom 6 role player.

This return would've been fine if Toffoli was a rental, but he still has 2 more years after this at a very good cap hit.

This is a great deal for the Flames...TT has 70 points in his last 89 games and is signed for 2 more years under 5M

Christ the Flames can probably trade him for a first 2 deadlines from now

Montreal gets a 1st, a 5th and assorted crap for a 29 year old Toffoli on a good contract with a couple years left but everyone seems convinced Philly will get a 1st, Newhook and Barron for a couple months of 34 year old Giroux.

It's like this every year. Every year.

Habs got the short end on this one. A solid top 6 player with good contract and term for 3 maybes and a 4th line/AHL-er

That's the point. He wasn't a throw in. That is who the Habs wanted as the centerpiece besides the 1st. Thats....underwhelming to say the least. The 5th and Pitlick were the throw ins.

The Flames thought enough of Heineman to make him a big part of the Bennett trade.

Absolutely shocked they didn't demand Pelletier as a return. Toffoli held HUGE value because of his offense and very affordable cap hit. I think Hughes screwed this one up.
- habfanforever

Wouldn't have happened if it were Pelletier as the ask.

And they instantly moved him the first chance they got. 3 teams already only 2 years after being drafted. Not a good thing. Habs had all the leverage here and blundered it. They better nail that 1st round pick, for Habs fans sake.

Reminds me of the Devils return for Hall when they traded him to Arizona. A bunch of whatever attached with a 1st. Luckily the 1st turned into Mercer, which is looking like a good pick so far. But Hall was a rental, and again, Toffoli still has 2 more years after this year at a good cap hit.

Terrible trade for Montreal, and, even worse, not a good indicator of how this so-called rebuild will go. Really really bad.

Who knows if the Habs got a good return. Every year the market changes. If the Habs continue to draft poorly it won’t matter

God damn, Toffoli isn’t Hall. Calm down.
Toffoli is a great top 6 players but he’s no Hall

You get it.

"Habs did bad." Relative to f8cking what? Markets change. I sincerely doubt Gorton Puppet went for the first piece of chum thrown out to sea.

This is hardly a return that anyone would consider a lot, the 5th is a long shot to ever amount to anything, Pitlick has no value at all, this prospect has been traded twice now so really its just the 1st round pick, not bad for Montreal but I thought they could've gotten a bit better for Toffoli, like a slightly better prospect and/or a bit better of a pick then a 5th.

Great trade for Calgary and smart of Treliving to act now instead of waiting till the trade deadline.

Poor return for the Habs. The 1st will be very late. Pitlik, who cares. For the prospect, chances are slim that he makes the NHL.

Bad trade for the new GM.

Disagree, pick will be 19th,20th and I like what I read about Heineman

Deal could be more about him than you realise

I liked TT, but kinda can't get over we had a crazy playoff run and he was'nt really visible, will be interesting to see if it changes this year !

I think there might be something there with Hiemy, but the fact that he didn’t come to Calgary to get a chance to see where he fits in in the prospect order may be something. That 1st rounder will be a late 20ish pick but still in a supposed good draft, still valuable. Could be good for both teams.
