Good trade for both teams, but the win probably goes to Hughes and the Canadiens. This one is going to hurt down the road.
Heineman is going to be a very solid NHL player. He has nine points in his last ten SHL games including six goals.
Edit: Apparently Elite Prospects has their “last 5/10 production category wrong. He has four points in his last ten. - Trevor_Neufeld_
Are you basing your opinion of a player on his stat sheet provided by Elite Prospects?
I won't bash you to hard for how stupid I think that is, because the Flames fans have desperately been needing someone to blog for them, but that is a pretty bad way to assess talent. |

You know what happens when you assume. You make an “ass” out of “u” and “me”.
I went through a few games after he was acquired. Prior to me working for this site. His release is remarkable and at 19 he was faster than a lot of his SHL teammates. He plays a really sharp offence and likes to stay close to the play. By “sharp” I mean he doesn’t dally with the puck often. Haven’t found time to watch him this season though.
If you want a good preview of how he plays, Karine posted all of his goals in her blog. You’ll see the release, the quickness, all of the things mentioned. If you want to watch SHL games, check out http://onhockey.tv/ , but be sure to have an adblocker of some sort.

When the Flames got Heineman, Conroy said he compared to Zach Hyman in work ethic and details. Another analyst said he is a B prospect. Did the Flames change their outlook for him or was it the price to pay to get TT?

Only time will tell but a lot of comments today made him out to be insignificant in this deal and I don't think that's the case at all.

4 recent 1st round picks in their prospect pool. Surely something there could get it done. |

I am not sure if those smaller guys play small enough for Van. |

Probably not as soft as some of the bigger guys we have.

Maybe as an Oiler. What he brings to the team as far as leadership and toughness, is what you need to win. 9 goals so far on pace for 15-16 able to move up when needed. Great trade for the Flames take that any day over minor leaguer Neal who is still using cap for the Oilers.
Holland’s a genius! - K-man25
Wouldn’t the oilers Absolutely love lucic now. When the flames traded the real deal! I loved it. Us as flames fans watched Neil go down hill as the season went on. And when the oilers said we will take him and retain some of lucic’s salary oh and we will give you a second as well tre I’m sure said umm okay 👍🏽 L |

Neal was embarrassed getting sat in the playoffs, went home after the trade and trained hard. Came to the Oilers, had a good first half, then reality sunk in.
Was a huge win for the Flames.
Oilers paying part of Lucic salary and still paying part of Neal’s with no player to show for it. Holland really is a genius. |

The only thing I would counter is that Heiny is a chance at having a NHL player, while Toffoli is one. Not saying he isn't a good prospect, but that is all he is at this point.

You sir are a class act. A lot of Flames fans had high hopes for him. Whether that is because of being part of the Bennett deal or his actual play. I didn't hear much about him last year that suggested he was an up and comer. But I had hopes.

I watched the video of all his goals in the Montreal blog, some real nice ones. Until he plays over here, I think it fair to hold judgment on him. I would have loved to see him in Stockton this year so we could of seen how he compared to the rest of the prospects. |

Isn't Toffoli a scorer (shoot first mentalility) just like Mony, so who is the playmaker on that line?
I mean with a playmaker, Mony, Toffi would be a good line. Gives Mony a chance to play with some more skill, and gives us another line with a scoring threat. Let's see where he slots in Exciting for sure! |

I would say this is a fair deal for both teams, maybe Montreal could have gotten a bit more but toffoli’s production taking a dive with the rest of the team this year is why the price was where it was at.
What I like:
-This move really solidifies the top 9, giving us the depth up front you need to take on teams like Vegas and Colorado in the playoffs.
-Going for it. After years of riding the fence on what to do at the deadline the team made a statement that we’re going all in on a roster that was likely to be diluted this off-season due to incoming raises
-the prospect going the other way being heinamen, he’s not one of the top 5 prospects and would forever be known as the guy we got back for Sam Bennett should he crack the roster which I suspect would put unattainable expectations on him
Concerns:
The long term outlook, yes toffoli is a good player on a good contract but one can question with our depth on the wings and Pelletier/coronato joining the team the next year or two if acquiring a winger with term was the best move to make. All that in the context of the likelihood of monahan/Dube being cap casualties leaving our bottom 9 centres for next season a combination of backlund, ruzicka, and zary. Not exactly a winning recipe which is why I preferred to target dvorak out Montreal myself but as I said before hard to be upset about going for it |

Another thing with Heineman is they made sure to highlight that he's unsigned. It may be another Fox situation where he was just going to stay in Sweden for another year anyway and then play wherever he wants.
The deal makes a whole lot more sense if they didn't think he was ever going to sign in Calgary. |

I was wondering about that as well.
If the kid was good enough to play in Stockton, and he was not their, you are probably onto something. |
