good question, I was also wondering the same thing. perhaps it has to do with the fact that teams will be very active until the deadline, and trades might be occurring earlier than usual, so the "bidding wars" will also happen sooner. if the habs didn't pull the trigger now they might have missed out on the deal.

and yes. The return is not bad but I’ve seen worse players with worse contracts traded for this kind of return at the trade deadline. A Pelletier or Coronato would have been more appropriate IMO.
