we had a great teacher in high school who just kept stacks and stacks of newspapers in his classroom and if he wasn't showing a movie he would just say "summarize one of the newspaper articles" and that would be all you had to do that day. in high school! i think he was close to retirement lol. - kicksave856

Yeah but if they can't go in public places (vax passport) then why are they such a vector of transmission? As for the pressure put on the front-line health care workers, yeah you are right but same happened with the C difficile, influenza and even some gastroenteritis. Might be time to answer that problem which has been a concern in Quebec for the past 25 years instead of going into an idealogic fight as we are no more in a pandemic but more of an endemic. - Habsody
The whole government preparedness is another issue, and the world was warned something like this was going to happen, but nothing was really done anywhere to truly prepare. It is not like there was not precedent or a lack of understanding at how fast something like this could spread in a more mobile world population.
Yet, even so, Quebec is no better or worse really than most places in the world. Not ideal, and certainly not giving them a pass on it.
What they do to be ready for the next one is really on them though.
But in the absence of that, the onus such as we currently have, will once again be shifted to the general population to manage.
And I think it will be hard for people to accept a government not prepared.

Yeah, well i meant in term of capacity, Quebec's system is truly a concern. Middle East is doing well, so is some Euro country, same apply to the States where the private plays a dominant role. But yeah, the first 3 months were a disaster in Quebec as we waited too long to order all EPIs... |

Wrong.
The health care system is overburdened, people seeking regular care for things like cancer, car accidents, etc... are suffering with the lack of medical support because of the people who have chosen not to be vaccinated.
Not to mention the mental and physical impact on front-line health care workers.
Just because most people are double vaccinated does not mean the non-vaccinated can no longer do harm only to themselves.
10% of the population unvaccinated is still close to 4 million people.

That's not how it works, the oncologist doesn't go treat a covid patient, neither does the nurses in that sector, who don't even know a respirator works.
Most workforce shortage has been cause by healthcare workers in confinement because they tested postive and had to stay home for 10 days, not because the system was overburdened by patients and a lack of respirators. Even with a triple dose of vaccine my girlfriend tested positive and had to stay home for 10 days, they had to shut down one operating room because they were short-staffed on RTs, even if she was fine, even if she could have worn an N95 mask.

There is a lack of physical beds and space to treat other patients - whether in the ER or in the wards of hospitals.
That is how it is actually working.

The issue is that this is not a local problem.
There are too many people in the world that remain unvaccinated, which will only lead to more variants. So until the richer countries start to provide resources, expertise and vaccines to those areas, the cycle will continue.
We are too global a community now, with people migrating from place to place all the time... just takes 1 person to create another lockdown. - Mashadar
Also correct, but clearly there no intention of vaccinating the poorest places, nobody as been talking about that in the last 4-5 months, hence why its now advienne que pourra... |
