Ennis plays awesome in a Sens jersey. He doesn't have everything all the time but he shows stretches where is a dynamic offensive threat - very underrated skill - AlfieisKing
As I mentioned in another reply, strong board play by Ennis, he is in over drive every shift, always giving it everything! He plays much taller than his smaller frame too. He can play up and down the line up. But what player on this roster doesn't disappear for large chunks of games.....Tierney, Sanford, Gambrell, you name it.....Ennis gives way more than those 3 players on a nightly basis. What I like about Ennis is you notice him for the right reasons, the other 3 I named, you notice them for the wrong reasons! |

I always said Paul and Ennis should be given contract, but the more I see Gaudette play I’d rather have him and Paul 🤔 |

For me Ennis is always effective regardless of his TOI, whereas with Gaudette, the only reason he's putting up numbers is that he's had a chance to be on the number one line a few games plus in the top 6 too. If you put him where he should be on the 3rd or 4th line, his production will drop. Gaudette is what he is as they say, when he actually slots into the lineup where his skill set should be. Just my 2 cents. He disappears a lot and I can tell you this, people within the org are scared of his defensive play longterm! |

Not true he got his first 3goals and 3assist playing on 3rd line and he has 9pts in 18games here
Ennis has 18pts in 41 I think and Ennis has just as many if not more on top 2 lines 😉
Gaudette only has 2goals and an assist playing top 2 🤷♂️ |

Well then, fair enough. But I doubt Gaudette sustains that pace, so when comparing Ennis with Gaudette, yes he's much younger but I wonder how far off both would be with each other if they played the same amount of games.
The one point though, like I mentioned earlier is that management is very fearful of his defensive game which is why he couldn't crack the lineup forever.

I like Ennis and my vote is to keep him. A Stanley Cup winning team does not have guys like Ganbrell, Sanford or Gaudette in their lineup but a guy like Ennis? Yeah! Not saying he'll be there three years from now but I wouldn't be surprised. I predict a serious Cup run three years from now. There are too many things that have to go right to win the Cup but barring really bad luck the Sens will be there. Book it.
PS: I think the Sens are going to scare a lot of people next year but because Smith will stick with keeping young guys in Belleville they will flounder. They might even be serious contenders two years from now. If only he would be playing some of those guys now when it doesn't matter. I'm not a coach and have no idea but I'd be giving the young guys more of a taste. Don't rush them because that's bad man give them a taste.
It's complicated and I think Smith is a good coach but maybe not the guy that can take them to the Cup. Just like when Jacques Martin got suckered by other coaches calling them soft and instead of skating Toronto out of the rink decided they should out muscle them. What a stupid move! Hey Alfredsson and Havlat I want you guys to hit. They should have won; and then there was Lalime. Never got a goalie What I'm trying to say is that a coach that does not understand the team that he has can not win the Cup. |

It's like Boro in NSH, you need character, veteran guys around. Ennis will sign for 750k. If anything this season showed how injuries pile up and you need guys like Ennis.

They went and traded for Gambrell and claimed Gaudette off waivers too....having a guy like Ennis around next year, even if he only plays 40-50 games, you know what you're going to get with him each night out. Plus DJ likes him! |

Don’t get me wrong Ennis puck handling against the wall is great , but Gaudette has better shot and stick handling.. watch Ennis lately it’s like he tries to do it all himself 🤷♂️
Just my point of view what I been seeing 🧐😂 |

Ennis in particular has had no consistent linemates and it shows, like you said. That has something to do with his individual play. Gaudette has better offensive upside, but his 200 foot is something to be desired. |

All great points my friend. The reference about Jacque vs. DJ is very true! It's funny you mention that because I'm working on a piece about DJ and a few things going on with the locker room dynamics right now.....nobody in this town will write about it, but I got the green light from my 2 sources from inside the org. |

It doesn’t matter who we like when it comes to reality Paul will be the only one they keep that’s if they pay him 🤷♂️
I’m with ya Sens are gonna turn heads next year depending on everyone staying healthy
And in 2yrs this could be our blue line 👍 and forwards
Chabot Sanderson JBD Thomson Brannstrom Holden
Tkachuk Norris Batherson Stutzle Formenton Brown Paul Pinto White
Kastelic Sokolov Grieg
That’s a beautiful team if ya ask me 😂

Preds have had scouts at Sens games, home or away for 7 weeks now.....between the Wild and Preds, Tierney and Sanford are the players I'm told that are connected to both teams looking to add depth guys at the deadline. I know NSH covets Brannstrom, after trading Ellis they want a guy to replace him I'm told. |

Unless Colin White has a crazy productive 2 months once he returns at the end of the month, I believe they buy him out unless a team Buffalo trades for him. Then Zaistev becomes the buy out player.

Ottawa Senators are on pace for: 30 - 45 - 7
Last year's record over 82 years: 34 - 41 - 7
Top 5 Scorers this year (over 56 games)
1. 23G, 61P - Drake Batherson
2. 20G, 46P - Brady Tkachuk
3. 12G, 42P - Connor Brown
4. 28G, 40P - Josh Norris
5. 11G, 30P - Tim Stutzle
Top 5 Scorers last season (over 56 games)
1. 17G, 36P - Brady Tkachuk
2. 21G, 35P - Connor Brown
3. 17G, 35P - Josh Norris
4. 17G, 34P - Drake Batherson
5. 07G, 35P - Thomas Chabot
A good take away --> great offensive growth from the top line, but Stutzle has not broken out (yet) and the team is worse overall |

Great post my friend! The team's road record under DJ has been just flat out awful.....naturally the health of Norris and Batherson has hurt Stutzle from breaking out as the opposition is able to gameplan to stop just one line that is a threat to score.
Having dead weight on the blueline has really hurt this team's development but DJ refuses to shake up the blueline pairings, while always mixing up the forward lines. DJ's inability to make adjustments has hurt this team big time. He makes Ennis a healthy scratch for 2 games, but JBrown is bullet proof. The double standard has hurt this team, I wish more media in this city would take him to task during his presser's instead of giving him soft questions. Even crazier is that Murray has been off the charts for the last 6 weeks but he isn't getting any goal support, while being in the top 5 of pretty much every goaltender category during this 6 week stretch. |

Well said.
Hard to follow this thread recently. Far too much complaining and outright whining about things that really don't matter in the long term.
When a team is rebuilding you need patience and vision in order to find your satisfaction in the achievements and progress of individual players. So much to be positive about and, yet, some folks can never be happy unless they can find something to be unhappy about.

Or you don't sign Ennis and leave the space available to be filled with prospects who are knocking on the door for full time NHL duty, like Jarventie and Greig. |

Are either ready? Neither is even 20 yet. I think Jarventie may need a bit more time in Belleville. Greig looks enticing, but he's still playing in Junior.
I have reservations with this team's tendnecy to hire vets over the young players, but I'm not sure any of the next batch of forwards is ready just yet. Maybe Sokolov, but even he is only 21. |

I don't think keeping Ennis is a bad idea, but no pending UFA player is going to just up and extend for the league minimum without seeing what they can get on the open market, that's a bit of a pipe dream.
Per getting prospects time, if we lose Tierney, Gambrell, Sanford and put Bishop in the minors where he should be, we will have plenty of holes that will need to be filled. Keeping guys who gel and can play up the lineup during injuries like Gaudette and Ennis makes sense, but only at the right price and term - easily flippable and cap friendly. I'm looking at Brandon Hagel's deal in Chicago that apparently has teams willing to part with a first rounder, or the deal Scott Mayfield signed with the NYI, or the deal Nick Paul is on right now. We'd benefit from one or two of those contracts moving ahead. |

I agree. Rushing them into the league is counter productive. Patience is the key word for this team and their fans. |

From everyone I have talked too, they really feel that Sokolov needs another year in the AHL, so at this time next year they hope he's ready for fulltime NHL action.
Greig needs to play in the AHL too. Jarventie, he's not close, he was homesick to start the year too.....when they had that 4 day break last month he had his girlfriend come over from Sweden to see him as they were lockdown mode over the holidays.
