First off NO GM IN HISTORY has ever been as bad as Gillis was.
Second off, when is the last time the 1oa pick was traded a year and a half into his career. Year 4 is when top picks get traded. - manvanfan
lol Gillis got this club within 60 min of a cup and helped build a dominant squad to 55 wins in 2011. The honors go to Keenan and Nonis bro and it aint close... |

Thought provoking. Detailed. Well researched. All words I would (not)use to describe Softwood posts. |

Cody Hodgson, Bo Horvat, Ben Hutton, Kevin Couuntannen, Brendan Gaunce. 6 drafts and that is all that was produced. Canucks might have won if he didn't waste just about every pick for 6 years.

There’s plenty of contest, the team hasn’t been very good. Name a good gm in the 70’s and 80’s? You can’t, we were a laughing stock until the 90’s other than Broduer catching lightning. |

First off, that wasn't the point. Your initial posturing was drafting traded picks > trading for players. That's clearly not true, both sides can lose or win in the end.
Second off, there's a first time for everything. The Rangers LW is set with Kreider and Panarin for the next few years, so if they believe JTM will push them over the top while those guys are in their prime, Laf would be an asset they could move. |

He and Craig Button… two gm’s with probably the worst draft record in the NHL as GM’s and still both get love on this board |

Exactly. Now we need a guy a bit better at trading and cap management. Hopefully JR can be that. Giraffe contract is going to Benning’s ghost. |

You mean 2 time president trophy winning game 7 gm Mike Gillis who got fired cause he wanted to rebuild?
Jim Benning and it's not close |

Set up the team for the future. Maxed cap, no prospects and perennially trying to squeeze into the playoffs with a slow, soft team. The future looks bright! |

Ya Gillis is far from the worst. Terrible at drafting though. |

Demko Hughes Petey will be all that's here. He cost us so much time by trading picks and signing poop players |

Benning is the Jar Jar Binks of GMs. Stumbling, bumbling idiot who by sheer luck made some good happen as he was tripping over his own feet.
The best part is, he wasn't trying to "set up the future". He was trying to "win now" |

Podkolzin, bowser and hoglander say hello.
Can anyone name me a GM prior to Pat Quinn who wasn’t a complete waste? Anyone? |
