You mean 2 time president trophy winning game 7 gm Mike Gillis who got fired cause he wanted to rebuild?

Jim Benning and it's not close

- Jkuzzi

I think you mean a team that was in the middle of their prime and was going to be good no matter who the GM was because it was already set up and couldn't manage to draft a single player to help them win a cup.

Podkolzin, bowser and hoglander say hello.

Can anyone name me a GM prior to Pat Quinn who wasn’t a complete waste? Anyone?

- neem55

Having a long list of shitty GM's doesn't make Benning a good GM.
He tops the list.

Benning is the Jar Jar Binks of GMs. Stumbling, bumbling idiot who by sheer luck made some good happen as he was tripping over his own feet.

The best part is, he wasn't trying to "set up the future". He was trying to "win now"

7.5 mill Boeser who will probably be moved this off season? I guess all those picks are great helping contribute to another bottom 10 finish. Boeser should been moved when he had actual value. Nils may be a decent 3rdiner. Podkolzin too soon to tell

We'll all be thanking Benning in a few years.

Yeah your right that's all it takes. Mix the cake batter and it becomes a cake. Unreal

Hamhuis erhoff Higgins lappy demitra they all fell out of the sky right? Signing Burr and the twins and Kesler to team friendly deals. That just happened by itself?

I would say he at least drafted well and made a couple decent trades. Terrible contracts on UFA’s and letting a couple valuable pieces walk for nothing have left us in bad shape. But to say he worse than any of the dogpoop gm’s of the 70’s is a joke.

The armchairs in here, they are the Craig Button's. Still thinking they are great without actually looking back because it's actually really embarrassing.

Boeser has 238 pts in 298 NHL games and doesn’t have value?

Virtanen and Juolevi disagree as does Gudbranson. For a couple of quick examples.

Someone else bakes the cake and gives you the icing. You decorate the cake to the absolute best of your ability and get 2nd place. The cake tasted great but so did someone else's but the presentation was lacking and that's why you lost.

Sweet Miller, Demko, Hughes and Petterson are some quick ones for you. I’ve gotta get hustling but enjoy the weather on the couch and listen to some dinosaurs while crying about your back and the Canucks for me![img][/img]

He has value just no where near as much as before. I wouldn't be lining up as a GM for 7.5 mill Boeser would you?

Do you think Benning actually planned for the future? Like, his idea was to draft where he drafted all those years? Or, do you think he meant to be more competitive with the trades and signings he made, and failed at that, so the higher drafts picks just came to him?

He made some good picks, he made some bad picks, he traded away too many picks for a quick fix. But I don't believe for a second he had a long-term plan and stuck to it, especially not mindfully setting the team up for the future.

Luongo was an unreal trade and put us over the top in terms of being able to compete for what was the best Canucks team weve ever had for about 6-7 years. Guys who made that team are Burke and Nonis.

Do you think Benning intentionally drafted Boeser, Hughes, Petey, Demko because he wanted to lose games for his entire tenure?

Rutherford has said there are a lot of good players here. Those words don't seem to translate to your thinking of what Jim did.

Theres also GM's that didnt make a trade nearly as good as Miller. Until Pat Quinn arrived this framchise was a joke and so were the people who ran it. Quinn was the best GM weve ever had, followed by Burke/Nonis as they both built teams that won for long stretches even if they didnt quite make it. We will see what JR will do with what JB has left him, far from thw worst already given how bad this team was run in the 70's and 80's with the exception of milford

Demko, Petey, Hughes, Boeser.

Gaunce, Jensen, Schroeder, Hodgson.

One GM had "no plan for the future"

Can you figure out what GM was which?
