We could've gotten Garland with the 1st we gave them. I'd have rather ridden out the last year of those contracts for sure, especially if the cost of getting rid of them was eating an additional 6 years and 7.2 mil cap hit. - Load Management
Maybe...but that wasn't the deal. Garland is on pace for 60 points and we needed a dman to fill gaps when EDler left. OEL logs minutes and is capable. IS what it is. All Id' like to see is a full year under Boudreau with an added RHD and 4LC for next year. See where it goes regardless of OEL's contract. I'm glad Beags Rous and LE are gone and remember the cheering in here when Benning dumped this contracts... |

Yes, we went from being kicked in the nuts 6 times per hour, to only being kicked in the nuts 4 times per hour |

Benning telegraphed his love for OEL for a couple of seasons and got bent over because of it. Screamed of "I GOT TO WIN NOW!" Regardless of if it was Benning or the Italian Blueberry King forcing him, it has hurt this franchise now and will continue to for years to come. |

No one knows exactly what anyone is thinking. I mean, that doesn't make for a good argument.
So the evidence I have to form my belief on Benning is: what he had said (about being competitive, how long it would take, what the team is, where he sees the team going, etc) and his actions on the job (trading picks for older players, signing vets to long term big $$ deals, etc).
The evidence against that, is the idea he might have just been lying? And there are some good players on the team he drafted?
Sure, he drafted some good players. But again, his words and actions point to him trying to make a competitive team and failing at it, thus having those top picks by being a bad talent evaluator at the professional level.
If a GM was really thinking about building the future of a club, do you think they would trade for more picks, or trade away more picks? GMs building a long-term vision don't trade away multiple 1sts, that's a "win now" mindset. Won't even touch on the 2nds - NewYorkNuck
I read what you type and I see you blindly looking only at the current moment and the past. Your mindset of future doesn't include actual future possibilities.
If you traded a first round pick and a third round pick and soon later get a first round pick and say 2- second round picks. Is that not a long term vision?

Not really any different then most of the gloriously inept Canuck seasons of the past. |

Then why do some want to trade Miller for prospects instead of picks? |

Benning was absolutely thinking about the future. Good trade chips and another high draft pick for the next GM.
Richardinson trade not so much. |
