We could've gotten Garland with the 1st we gave them. I'd have rather ridden out the last year of those contracts for sure, especially if the cost of getting rid of them was eating an additional 6 years and 7.2 mil cap hit. - Load Management
For the Yotes, the trade focus was about getting rid of OEL's contract. So I doubt Garland for a 1st would have happened. A lot of work wen into putting together that trade for both teams. There was nothing simple about it.

And this is where BPA isn't always the be all end all strategy. If your team is a black hole of D prospects, and the BPA is a 152 pound winger, you trade down, get more picks, and take a the best D available. If defenseman take longer to develop, you better draft more of them to built a future team. - carsonagenic
Good post. Been talking about this lately...

On another note...saw a bunch of live footage of Geoff Tate he is doing a small tour with a pretty tight band doing Queensryche songs. Check it if you can still got some pipes and the music sounds solid. |

I would rather have those deadmeat contracts expiring in a couple of months and have that cap space, and the draft picks given up instead of hafling Garland and OEL deadmeat contract. - carsonagenic
OEL 15 points, good value. |

Young players > picks in the JTM return. Trade Motte, Chiasson, Halak etc for picks. Get good players from JTM. - NewYorkNuck
