Imagine if they resign Chara? I can see it happening

The question is who? Is it a Dmen or Forward? Personally I think it needs to be a forward as the Isles have Salo and Aho to fill in the gaps on D. However, they need to bring in another top 4 guy to take some heat or Dober. Don;t want to screw with his development.

Gotta get a top one guy, foresberg or gadreau

Rip it down, rebuild and change the coach and GM. They don’t know wtf they’re doing! I mean playing Bailey and Beau in the top 9 is ridiculous and let’s not forget Palms and Parise who suck as well. I just hope we don’t have to go through another year with these clowns in charge

Aho sucks. I have little faith in him being anything more then a 7th defenseman if that.

Don't take it to extremes with the coach but Lou made moves that hurt the team. The team got older and slower in a young man's fast game. Bailey looks checked out this year if we are being honest. Remove Chara greene and Parise and perhaps they move someone else at the deadline and they and get more speed and talent thus off-season. They have 3 3rd lines and a 2nd right now

Just like every other sport, it's a "what have you done for me lately" league. The Isles came into the seasons expecting to challenge for the cup, New building and all. This season has been a horrific fail, no matter how you slice it. The only real differences between this season and last are Chara, Parise and a full season of Palms (of course that's due to the loss of Ebs and Leddy). Also Sorokin taking on more games.

I think this is exactly where it all went wrong. Add in the awful Palmieri deal and you have a team going the wrong direction.

An interesting note on Varlamov, the #VegasBorn have inquired about the #isles goaltender as first reported by @TheFourthPeriod. No indication as to how serious or not those talks were.

Obviously, Lou didn't expect Chara to be as slow and look as old as he did for most of the beginning of the season. He's looked ok at times though. I have to say that I love the hustle of Parise. He doesn't take a shift off. The pucks just weren't going in for him. I'm sure Lou expected more production out of him & Palms. You're right, the team did get older and slower. It didn't work this season. I'm just going to go ahead and assume that Lou is working on correcting this and will do what needs to be done to make next years team a viable contender.

Hmmm…

Here’s hoping Lou can pry a guy like Hague out of Vegas.

Hindsight being 20/20, yeah it was a killer. But we had Leddy, Mayfield, Greene, Hickey(yeah, I know) and I believe it was still unknown that Boychuk wouldn't be able to play anymore. We also had Dobson, Pelech & Pulock coming around. Then there was Salo, Aho, Wotherspoon and Vande Somple in Bridgeport. Maybe the thought was that a few of the younger guys were going to make a bigger impact than they have. I don't know if it was a cap-driven move. But when you have 10-12 guys fighting for 6 spots, someone is going away. If you want to argue that they traded the wrong one, well, I wouldn't put up much resistance. Just remember, things don't always work out the way they would have if something changes. Maybe Toews doesn't progress as quickly as he has in Colorado. Maybe they trade Pulock or Pelech instead of Toews. What then? We watch Pelech be the shut-down defenseman he is on another team and say "we shouldn't have traded him". I just think that Lou will make the right moves for next season.

That it did. Fortunately this can be addressed in house somewhat, by making Bellows and Salo regulars.

I agree on Parise. He hustles but lost a step and he lost something on his finish.Parise wasn’t a good fit for the Islanders. Not productive enough to be on the 3rd line and the Isles already had a set 4th.

Fair points, but Parise has been the least of their problems this year.

Chara just isn't an NHL defenseman at this point. He's averaging 18:30/gm which is just absurd given how terrible he's been. I have a ton of respect for the guy and his entire career, but I'm really starting to scratch my head as to how they keep trotting him out there every night and watch him cough up pucks and get beat left and right.

I don’t want to stir anything up. Just an honest opinion. Lou reminds of Al Davis. Both brilliant but stayed as some of the brilliance faded. Palms, Zajac, Parise and Chara were all mistakes. But they didn’t break the bank and Palms impacted the playoffs.

No, you're not stirring anything up at all. I don't really disagree too much with points you made, other than that I think he's a good 3rd liner and has meshed well with Pageau.

The points obviously aren't there but he's doing everything but scoring. Not ideal, but not the person I'm blaming for the way the Isles are playing this season either.

The Islanders problem is that they're slow as all hell. Outside of pretty much Barzal/Beau/Pageau, everyone else is slower than dirt.

It's not all on Lou/Trotz, there are a whole bunch of guys who simply aren't performing as well as they need to.

I certainly wouldn't go so far as to say that the game has passed Lou by or some of the brilliance has faded. They went to the conference finals just last year. So a few of his moves didn't pan out this year. And, as Chiefs pointed out, there are quite a few players that seemed to have regressed, not stepped up, or just didn't meet expectations this season.
