You can give a rats ass all you want but it's happening. He ties it tonight and breaks it the next game.
I don't want to put words in your mouth, but I believe you stated that Salo is better than Chara. If so, then Trotz throwing Chara out there each night to chase a record is not good coaching. If he's not putting him out there to chase a record, but because he thinks he's the better option, then that's not good coaching either. Would that be a correct summation?
I don't care about this record either, I care about the team winning. Personally, I think Salo is a little better than Chara right now. He brings more speed, better stick-handling and better puck movement. Hard to argue with Chara's physical presence though.
All this said, it doesn't mean I want Trotz canned, fired, gone or jettisoned into the sun (I'm talking to you, 7).

Total waste of time and money bringing Lou and Trotz to this team. Game has past them both by. I mean we could have had a number of GMs and or Coaches that would have turned this team and organization around but we L and M chose these 2 clowns. I mean if they only kept Toews and played Wally we could have had 2 cups by now. Just a shat show under these two idiots.
Now, I along with Barry I feel Chara has been fine. I think Salo is in the minors because Aho required waivers. That said I thought Aho played well except for in the Habs game. He struggled but honestly it’s hard not to when the team in whole puck management was dreadful. I think the decision to play Aho is maybe to use him in a trade but that’s just a guess. I feel Salo is better than Aho and ready to take the next step.

Not much choice in the matter. Seattle was taking somebody. They weren't going to take Martin, Johnston or Zeeker. If you want to say that Lou didn't protect him by making some kind of deal, you can. But none of us have any way of knowing that he wasn't trying to make a deal. Maybe they wanted way too much. Maybe they weren't making any deals. Either way, someone was going. If I remember correctly, and I'm not sure I am since I'm as old as dirt, Bailey wasn't protected either.
- Isleshockeyman

Bailey wasn't protected.. but Martin was protected. That was a mistake.. I had zero issues with Bailey being unprotected. Ebs was a mistake.

I will go to my grave saying we win last year with Whalstrom in line up instead of Zajac for that series. It reminded me of Cap sitting Lee in game 7 against Washington for REasoner.

Stefen Rosner@stefen_rosner·58m.@NYIHockeyNow has learned that after Zdeno Chara breaks the record Thursday for the most games played by a defenseman in #NHL history, the #Isles  will explore the trade market to move Chara to a Stanley Cup contender.

Bailey wasn’t protected either which is shocking. I guess trotz forgot to tell Lou how good he was and that he has been our top playoff producer. Well I’m sure the rest of the league knows how good he is so we can count on getting a primo package for him when needed. Such a cerebral player should fetch a handsome return.

I’m not sure if we would’ve won but I will say I was completely dumbfounded that Leo Komarov was on our first line for pretty much the entirety of the playoffs. After defensive stalwart Josh Bailey pretty much single handily gave up that short handed goal it was good to know we had Leo Komarov on our first line. He’s well known for coming through with clutch goals.

Puck management by the whole team has been a Titanic-like disaster the entire season. They've turned the puck over everywhere on the ice. It's like it's a completely different team from the last couple years. I just don't get it.

I certainly wouldn't go so far as to say that the game has passed Lou by or some of the brilliance has faded. They went to the conference finals just last year. So a few of his moves didn't pan out this year. And, as Chiefs pointed out, there are quite a few players that seemed to have regressed, not stepped up, or just didn't meet expectations this season.

What has Lou really done for the team to improve it besides getting a real coach . He got us JGP thats really all except bought in to many of his old players from Devils.
And could the players be getting tired of playing Trotz style of play are maybe other teams just know how to play against his style?

I totally agree. I want to hope it’s the long opening road trip, Covid and injury misfortune that just never let this team get its jam going.

Players one after another have signed team friendly extensions and contracts which show they want to be here as part of the team.

Mason Marchment is such a piece of crap. I've watched several videos where he cheap-shots guys, or lays them out with blind-side hits(which a couple were actually clean, just predatory) or cross checks them in the head. Now he looks to the ref for a call on clean hit(albeit maybe predatory)? Then swings his stick at deHaan. Then cross checks Reichel. Dude is a joke. I don't know if he's trying to get to Avery level, but he seems to be trying.

*Edit: Although, he is over a point per game this season.

Come on, man. Don't be that guy. He's completely turned the attitude, vibe, and chemistry around. This organization was a complete clown show just a few short years ago. He's brought respectability to the organization. As well as what 7 said with player signings.
I think it's a multi pronged thing when it comes to this year. Other teams have a lot more tape on Trotz' style now, so yeah, maybe they're making adjustments this year. Plus the team got older and slower so other teams are able to exploit that weakness. Not to mention, we're turning the puck over WAY too much. Then a sprinkling of not being able to score and you have a bad season. They're dead last in the league in goals for and 3rd in goals against. So there is still some semblance of defense. They're still not giving up goals, but they aren't scoring any.

They were slow right out of the gate. Sorokin kept them in games early on but they just turn the puck over too much. I don't know. Hope next year is better.

can we get anything of value at the deadline for Bailey, Palms, Clutterbuck, Martin and Chara? They all need to go ASAP. What about Varly? not the best season but has to be worth a third rounder.

Chara & Varly might go. Palms isn't going anywhere. At least I don't think he is. He just signed a new contract. I also don't see Bailey or Martin getting traded. Clutterbuck I think is a maybe. But what the hell do I know.

Regarding leaving Ebs exposed. I think the thought was that Palmieri would slot into Ebs spot and maybe not score as many goals but add a little grit to the top line. Palmieri has had a dreadful year unfortunately. Really hope he gets back on track next season.

This is about right and honestly, show me where anyone said right after Ebs was taken that that was terrible. Most weren’t that upset about it to be honest. I think Palms has picked up his game since coming back from injury.
