ultimately i get the rationale
Panarin and Kreider signed long term, two top picks used on Lafreniere and Kakko and another top 10 pick used on Kravtsov, why sign another winger long term?
they just should have made a better trade, but then again, better trade offers weren't there - jimbro83
All true- Blais could have softened the blow but for....

In the end all GMs make some bad moves. I just chalk it up as a bad decision and move on. Drury has hit it out of the park with some moves: Gallant hiring, Reaves trade, Othmann pick. Failed on some others: Nameth/Tinordi Contracts, Buch trade.
Why this trade deadline is huge for him, interesting to see how he does |

My prediction is an enormous trade with Arizona. Like a 15 player trade haha and a couple small depth trades |

Does NYR try to resign Blais in off-season. He was looking good B4 he went down - rrentz
His qualifying offer is 1.6m and he was definitely gonna get that. I think hes the perfect 3rd line guy who hits everything, plays either wing and has surprising skill with his hands. If we can lock him up cheap for 2-3 years it would be awesome and helpful. Goodrow on LW, Blais on RW… we just need a C between them (*cough*Copp*cough*) and that line would be a legit force. |

It wasnt because the Rangers didnt think he was good- he was a cap casualty - They were however probably a little surprised for the amount he signed for- but i would guess his demands to NY were higher than what he got from St Louis - Greschnergy#4
I think people dont consider the tax burden on the players when they sign contracts here. NY has the highest tax burden in the United States, to compensate, players are paid significantly more than they may have been elsewhere. It also deters people from coming here. So eventhough Buch took 5.8m in STL, that contract could have been 6.5m in NY. |

would you want to swap 7 players with the worst team in the league? - we can go from good to bad real quick -- just sayin |

Blais was playing great..IF he did t get hurt RW situation would be fine and we wouldn't be hating on the trade so much |

Ya his 4 assists in 14 games definitely helped me forget about Buch being over a PPG. Don’t forget also we get pick number 50+ 🤦♂️ |

It's a big if though. The reality is Buch is top line player in his prime, averaging a point per game right now on a solid contract. And Blais is out for the year and not signed next year yet. |

guaranteed Blais would have produced about as much as Goodrow has and he was on his way to a 250 hit season though |

if Buch was still here, this season would have been all about Lafreniere not getting any icetime and they are ruining a 1st overall pick

So what was supposed to be done differently?
female dog all you want about Buch taking a step forward in STL. female dog about Blais getting hurt. female dog about the return not being enough. None of that is Drury's fault. The facts of the matter are that we SEEMED to have an abundance of RW talent and Buch was going to get a contract that would have made some other moves very difficult. Also a fact that the trade market for Buch was not there. I highly doubt Drury made a public statement that he would only deal with St. Louis, yet there weren't any offers great enough for Blais and a 3rd to be dismissed. Were we supposed to just keep Buch and not address the subsequent moves just because we thought he should bring back more? Would we be better off than our current 6th place standing in the league?
Obviously, it didn't work out the way we'd hoped. Oh well, too bad. That's the way life goes sometimes. Continuing to complain about it is just a waste of time. |

Yea I am not saying he should be. My point is its ok to just chalk it up as a bad trade that right now didn't work out at all. Just move on and try to fix it |

Well, even with Buch gone LAF was still on the third line for the first 3 months of the year. |

To some extent, they could have kept him and figured it out in the offseason. But who knows, personally Im over it and just want to make better what we have. |

Ultimately, it made sense to trade Buchnevich, the return wasn't enough
but, like I said earlier, they obviously werent getting good eoffers
