You look at every move made in hockey through the narrow scope of your own beliefs rather than looking at all of the variables and coming to an objective opinion. Calgary doesn't view Toffoli as a rental. They viewed it as a hockey trade. Sutter is very fond of Toffoli as a player. A trade that the Habs were happy with became available. That is quite a different situation than the Flyers are faced with. It also doesn't consider the draft lottery. Finishing last doesn't guarantee you the first pick. You mistakenly think that the move was about tanking. The deadline trade market has not developed yet. There is no non-trade of Giroux. It is upcoming.

Agreed. There might be a Sutter/Toffoli connection dating back to their time with the Kings. No different from when Sutter plucked an unknown goalie from the Sharks system known as Mika Kiprusoff. God I Love Darryl Sutter!

Bodes we’ll for McJohnny signing in Calgary

The Flames are playing awesome hockey right now. I put some money down on them to win the Cup a few weeks ago. They are legit. Tough out for anyone.

If the Flyers don’t make the playoffs, I always go for every Canadian team that makes the playoffs.

Everybody knows how highly Sutter thinks of Toffoli.

That is also irrelevant, because a cursory reading of my argument would reveal (except for the lobotomized) that every single thing I wrote is from the Hab's perspective.

Unless the suggestion is that they gave up Toffoli to please Sutter, which would be rather farfetched.

5'7" and 159 pounds. He had better be pretty quick.

long odds he is anything but AHL level.

Definitely quick, but he's got the gym rat build...very good lean muscle composition. I just wouldn't be confident that will work against full size NHL bodies like it does vs. college kids which has it's share of smaller players.

It really is a no brainer it will likely be Max Willman.
- SuperSchennBros

he should be ok on the 4th line, time to sit Mac on the bench, he is all effort but if he is not fighting, he brings zero. Willman can not play 3rd line, he can get to the puck but can't make the next play. He actually causes a lot of up and down the ice, wo no payoff

Nothing about what you just said makes Willman sound like he belongs.

It is short sighted and laughable to suggest that the Calgary perspective is irrelevant. Unless of course you continue to have that tunnel vision. It takes two teams to make a trade. Calgary was looking for a player and was willing to meet Montreal's price at this time. It's that simple. From the Flyers perspective, if a team calls up the Flyers today and meets their asking price for Giroux and Giroux okays the trade. Which is a factor that you failed to consider in the Giroux "non-trade", The Flyers will make the deal ahead of the trade deadline. Most realize, (except for the lobotomized}that a team that Giroux will likely okay a deal to, is not going to be in position to make a deal until closer to the deadline.

Your spin to try and make the Calgary side not relevant to try and support your premise was very weak and poorly thought out. It didn't consider all of the relevant variables. In other words, there are factors which refute my stance so I'll just ignore them and insult anyone who brings them up.

on the 3rd line he does not, his speed and the way he plays the game could be good on the 4th

I am hoping for a Canes/FL and Bolts CF, and an Avs/VGK on the other side, with Bolts/Avs in finals.

Apart from those parameters, indifferent.

Im anxiously waiting for the day to come when our 4th line is something like Oskar - Laughts - TbD. At some point the league trend to having 4 lines that can score will drag the Flyers kicking and screaming into the new era.

I actually don't mind MacEwan on the fourth line. He skates well and I think he has more skill then people assume. I could see him producing a little more with better players on his line moving forward.

If your team is that good to push Laughton and Lindblom to the 4th line, they're too expensive cap wise to keep on the 4th line.

Bill,

i know very early still but I looked at a mock draft and I saw the Flyers taking Brad Lambert. I believe he was talked about early on as a potential top 2 pick after Wright. DO you have any insight into why he seems to be dropping in things I have read?

I tend to agree that he gets slammed far more than he deserves. He gets to the right places, is always battling, he just needs to grow into his "hands". I'm in the camp that his positional play will get him in the rights spots to score with better players and that over time he will get a better handle on his mitts.

I think the bigger question is whether that role will be eliminated in the next 24 months or so. top 6 Power forwards like the Tkachuk's will always be there but I am not supremely confident the Clutterbuck, McEwen role is going to be around forever.

True...I meant more the talent and skill set equivalency. Tanner L, Noah Cates, Desnoyer, Zayde Wisdom...we should have bodies for the 3td and 4th lines going forward

I think many like McEwen's competitiveness and hustle and mistake that for being a good player.

Effective for his prescribed role is more apt. The question is whether that role deserves to be manned at all.

So he is not a good player?

For his role I think he can be solid player as a 4th line winger. Could he play a Matt Martin role. Maybe he could add penalty killing to his game moving forward.

The guy isn't a slug and I think with better players you could see an uptick in his game. not 20 goals but be an effective 4th line player. He'll always be a pretty inexpensive player so that helps when building the roster. He 25 so maybe more can be added to his game .

That begs the question of what is his prescribed role.
