Giroux will get a late 1st or similar prospect, along with a 2nd or 3rd or some B level prospect. Anyone thinking about two 1sts and a young roster player is thinking like the Buzztron. - HockeyBuzzed
I'm fine with 1 decent prospect...ala Erat for Forsberg type trade. No one, I MEAN NO ONE expects 2 1sts and a young roster player.

A decent comparable was when Kevin Hayes was traded. Late 1st, 4th, Brendan Lemieux. Evander Kane once went for a similar package. If Colorado doesn't have a 1st they'll have to get more creative. Newhook would be the ask. What does Ek think? |

did eric staal win a stanley cup yet? - Eklblad
I’m assuming this is making fun of something KA or EK said that I missed. But if it’s serious yes he won one in 2006. |

No they waived him because he was a douchebag and was fighting teammates. |

Did Ek’s Russian source protest yesterday?
Can he still text Ek from a gulag? |

Apparently the IIHF meets Monday to discuss what to do with Russia.
Let’s be crystal clear here:
Hockey Canada holds all the power here.
I expect them to take a hard line: no Russian teams allowed in any competition s.
If the IIHF waffles, it’s time to ask why we need the IIHF.
We could hold our own WJC. All you need is the US, Finland and Sweden to agree, and the IIHF is dead.
We don’t need them for World Cups, and I don’t give two poops about World Championships or the Spengler.
And everything above holds true for women’s hockey. |

Kick all Russians out of the NHL. Maybe even the country. Or put them in jail for awhile. |

No, thats going too far.
But I would like them to feel the heat psychologically. Let them denounce the actions. If not, let them feel the social stigma and I hope it is significant. They are not going to hotdog it across our ice and think they can keep their trap shut and we will cheer them on as though nothing has happened.
And let their leaders understand that all over the world, unless proven otherwise, Russians will be treated with a suspicion that they are Nazi supporters.
Everything has changed. |

19. Feels like goalie Alexandar Georgiev, a first and a second-round pick would be a good start to the New York Rangers acquiring defenseman Jakob Chychrun from the Arizona Coyotes. That's close to what the Coyotes are asking.
If the Yotes would accept this deal it would have been done a long time ago! |

You found a way to insert Nazi in there but I’m honestly disappointed you couldn’t squeeze in a little white supremacy. Be better. |

Yeah if the price were a bad goaltender and a late first I would think he would be traded already. |

So treat Russians as if they are affiliates of a genocidal regime so Russian leaders feel bad about the heat that the diaspora is feeling? First, I doubt Russian leaders give a f8ck. Second, why should we assume all Russians are supportive of Putin? Read up on that whole Japanese interment thing that happened here in the 40's for context of why your idea is absolute sh8t.
Edit: https://www.sportsnet.ca/...absolutely-unprecedented/
But yeah: let's group Russians like Panarin in with your plan because they all should feel the heat so Russian leaders feel bad. |

Let's have authorities stop people in public to see their papers. If they are Russian - jail. No vaccine - jail. Voted Republican - jail. Etc...

Dude, it might be useful to pay a little attention to what I am saying instead of railing at the usual strawmen.
I am saying: questions in press conferences, banners in stands, protests near home, and on their social media platforms, not just to NHL players but all public personalities.
(Please note: this is the exact same thing that was done against South African athletes during the Apartheid regime. Except the social media part.)
I am not saying: any civil or criminal escalation beyond that. Nor am I saying any harassment of any "ordinary" Russian at say Brighton Beach.
Why I am saying this: Since the fall of the USSR, the Russian elite are enmeshed in western professions and public life. Their lives are avidly followed back home, and many of them are very close to corridors of power (though less so in the last few years).
The practical aspects of such social stigma is to disturb the lives and hope collectively it percolates up and creates social pressure. If Mr. Putin wants to recreate the Cold War, let him be reminded in direct and indirect ways what his country faced in those days, and how it went.
And even if it did not have any practical effect: Sports, beyond competition between team and team, also has a moral component to it. When we support sports, we are buying in to the notion that entities can compete with passion and yet stay within rules. The government of the individuals involved have broken such a pact. I understand that protesting them is a personally illiberal act, but so is the draft during a war. And this is a war.
So, I am personally ok with this tradeoff.
Two digressions:
1. Panarin should be lionized and given a bigger platform, like 60 mins, because of Navalny and what Navalny has said about Ukraine.
2. The Japanese internment has nothing to do with the current situation. |
