Ek is reporting we are in on Smith, Koskinen, Halak, Khodoben and Holtby so we can upgrade our goalies this season. Some of those choices may actually make our goalie issues worse, while others are only slightly incrementally better. Just let it ride until the off season and get a better draft slot, don’t waste our time with one of these goalies please

The big thing is that if we're going to take on money for a bad goalie just so they can be mediocre at best the team we're taking them better be giving us a reason to do so. If we're selling assets for a poop goalie it's obviously bad.

I swear to god there is one game in Zacha's life where he needs to play big and it's tonight.

Bratt getting paid, obviously, legit question. Predict siegenthalers next deal… bridge or long term? And cash figures? I think long term. No offense slightly decreases the pay day… 5-6 years at 5.5-5.8… would anyone balk at that?

Feels high for a defensive specialist in today's game. I'm trying to find comparables but 4.5-5 range feels right.

No shot Siegs is getting much more than 4, if even that. His offense, or lackthereof, is what will hold him back from truly cashing in on a big pay day

Yes, I agree with you and vlongo. Good point. If we can get an asset for a bad contract than I’m totally onboard. But to try and “upgrade” with that group is not in our best interest long term.

Being an RFA hurts him too. You see guys like Tanev and Olesiak getting overpaid but that's usually by GMs who rate grit/60 really highly. There just aren't that many guys who are actually elite defensively getting contracts appropriate to their talent and output. I'd say that he'd be worth 4.5 (if his defensive metrics stayed the same) but you're probably right that the way the market operates for his type of player that he'll come in much cheaper. 3-3.5 is already more than double his current contract which is a big pay day.

I guess that means Smith isn’t on the Canucks wishlist if they’re in the house scouting us. Glad to see.

He’s the only defensive stabilizer we got… you sure? I’m actually leaning to a bridge deal that he signs and ups the value at a later date.

Better skater, but reminds me of a ken daneyko job.

Yup exactly. Being an RFA makes a huge difference. Anything less than 5 and I'm thrilled with, but from the rumors Tom is looking to get him in the 3.25-3.75Mish range. No idea on term though

You'd think the Canucks are going to want to make a trade as soon as possible. They have a better backup than Halak waiting but now that he's met his bonus he'll be easier to trade. Halak is obviously bad but nobody is Gillies level of bad. Plus I'd imagine that taking on the contract plus whatever other big money contract they'd be shipping out gives them the cap space to maneuver the deadline to improve their team.
