To put players lives into commodity terms, trading Miller for the same thing you paid for him three years ago would be like buying a stock for $1 each and selling it three years later for $1 each. Even Don knows that’s not good business. Unless of course the utility you’ve received in that time outweighs the price you get. Like, if the number of wins the team had were so high that team revenues were way up… - 1970vintage
How about putting them into a depreciating asset category, doesn’t seem right to say you paid this much in their 20’s and expect more in their mid 30’s. |

Thanks Carol, good point about the refs, seems that they decided to punish the Flames for being the whiny, sniveling disrespectful crybabies. They got what they deserved, Canucks maybe, just maybe could have had two called. - Makita

Also @Vantel, something you said from the game the other night really stuck, and is something I’ve been thinking but haven’t said out loud.
Watching on TV doesn’t give you the whole picture. Your comment was about Boeser being better than you perhaps thought I think. It’s probably the same for guys who we (I) complain about too, like Myers. I think generally speaking, the guys are all better than the whiners think and not as good as the slurpers think. - 1970vintage
When I was at the Ducks game I thought Myers looked even more out of position than I’ve noticed. He did have a particularly bad game that night though. |

They missed a high stick by highmore other than that the canucks were disciplined, there was nothing to call, no manufacturing which was nice. The flames kept being stupid and the ref called it which again was nice. |

I thought the PP looked way out of sync but they scored 3 on the PP. There was a couple of break out passes that Flames walked right in but got Demko'd .
I think if anyone looked like they didn't belong it was Brad Hunt.
I am not a fan of Hughes but the amount that he drives and controls the game is very impressive. I will probably take the wife for a game when they get back it is a lot of fun.

It has a lot to do with last year .
It is definitely because he is small and not physical and I don't think he has much of a shot either. Just because he is not a favorite of mine it does not mean that I am trying to move him. I get that he is here for a long time and that is okay.

i look at it as a sneaky shot, not hard but he tries to get it through by picking spots hoping for deflections, he could work on velocity though. |

he does and petey has some confidence building now, i look at that line and i see lots of potential. - Bettmanhatesus

Well that was why I included utility. You gain a certain amount of benefit by owning the asset. In the case on an NHL team, that would include things like gate revenue, playoff appearances, wins etc. that utility offsets any loss from the depreciation of the asset, or at least it should. Given that Miller is likely hitting his peak value, trading him now for a first and a third would be an utter failure by this management group.
Schmidt you can let go as a mistake, that only cost you a year, and I guess the player you let walk for nothing, plus the difference in salary you paid, but minor in the grand scheme of things.
Edit - I guess there is also the possibility that a first and a third is Miller’s true value, which would say something about the bargaining position from three years ago… |

I’ll never admit Myers is “good”, no matter how well he played |

Oh crap, the Rangers only managed 19 shots in a 1-0 loss. They going to be ornery tomorrow. |

I guess they won't be signing many college and European free agents this season they only have 3 available spots, 2 if they sign Linus. |

It’s not from anybody. We were just blending economics and hockey. I’m sure a JT Miller trade would involve more than this. |

Good point, they trade Miller, they should get 3 players back, leaving room for only 1 signing. |

I’m sure that’s in the cards, JR had publically said so. |
