Your presumption of the amount of roster players is flawed, both allvin and JR have talked about the nsed for picks and cap space. Seems unlikely many contracts will come back but rather prospects and picks.

Actually, I believe they have mostly mentioned prospects and young players, so I would assume a young player is someone playing on the NHL and a prospect is someone who is already signed to a contract.

They can be in the NCAA or Europe, in fact most trade rumors ive seen around Miller involve both picks a player liek schnieder(ncaa) or that finnish dman in Toronto.

I can't say I have heard them ever mention picks, I have heard, prospects, college and European free agents, but not picks, unless you are referring to when they state that they won't be trading picks.

They said they are more interested in young players/prospects than picks. Discussed adding young players to the young core instead of developing picks long term. Doesn't mean they don't want picks... but they are not the primary target.
