Benning was a disaster, trading Miller & the Angry Elf will start repairing that.

I hope this is sarcasm?

Nah man. My original thing was how many players the Canucks drafted that are playing on their team (7), and said Tampa has 13 on their current roster. Then you talked about draft position, so I pointed out how many of that 13 were drafted high (2 top end, 4 first round), saying out of the players on the Canucks right now they drafted 4 of theirs in the top 10.

My point is about how much of the team and prospect pool is made up from JB's draft guru-ness. Which is not as much as you'd expect from a draft guru.

- NewYorkNuck

If you want to put your thought into actual correct perspective.

Stamkos drafted 2008. Call that first year. The lightning have 13 drafted players on the roster since 2008.

That would include all of Mike Gillis draft picks. How many draft picks does he have on the roster 1.

Benning has 6.

So if the incredible Mike Gillis had drafted even remotely half decent, it would be pretty much equal.

Zlodeyev 2 G 1 A today in MHL game
- VANTEL

He is being bounced back and forth between the MHL and VHL.

Wish he would get a little more regular time in the VHL though. 29 points in 16 MHL games.

VHL hockey probably isn't far behind AHL hockey in terms of quality.

I do like how there are more guys out there actually watching these guys play full games and forming their own conclusions since these games you can find streams of most of the top leagues either legally or illegally. There’s definitely a lot of groupthink still out there but that’s natural with drafts.

Nobody really knows what this means or whether there is any truth to it
- NorthNuck

It’s a foolish, asinine statement. Demko, Miller, Pettersson, Hughes are the reason they win the majority of their games right now, they aren’t the problem, it’s the rest of the team that desperately needs improvement.

And Pearson, don't forget he was the priority signing last season.

Too lazy to look but are there any Benning 3rd round or later picks playing on the Canucks?

Taking from the same year that Benning took over and started drafting, Tampa has 4 players on their roster, having not drafted higher than 14th, and having first round picks in only four of those seasons eight seasons. Vancouver has had more top 10 picks then they have had first rounders, and the Canucks have a whopping 2 more players to their roster.

So, is that correct perspective? Is that a good drafting GM?

At the moment, no. Rathbone is on his way most likely. Gaudette and Forsling aren't on the team any more.

That's it. Those 3.

I don't believe so. On other teams yes. Forsling and Gaudette.

I’m an outsider but if I was Gm in Van if the team is out of the playoffs at the deadline I trade Boeser and Horvat for whatever the best offer is. Then in the summer explore a blockbuster deal for Pouty. He’s not a heart and soul guy that will carry the team. Keep Miller, Garland, Demko, Hughes happy. Have a great draft with multiple first rounders in a deep draft. Sign a UFA vet for a team friendly deal. In a few years thing look pretty good.

After the 8 year 'Benning Pandemic' many here have cases of the "long Bennings"

Flames #rebuild2005 looking very good under Benning.

Pretty Sure Daryl Sutter has him on speed-dial...

Okay, that doesn't really mean anything....?

Are the Canucks the team coming up, with their elite prospect pool? The one every ranking has in the lower quarter of the league? Are the back-to-back Cup champs on the way down?

Constructive comment though, that had absolutely nothing to do with drafted players on the roster over a certain time period.

What comments are these? (not being sarcastic, just haven't heard him say anything lately that would allude to their being "a problem")
- manvanfan

Him taking about players not being ready to start games, how being an NHL player is hard, and you have to prepare yourself in practice, every day. I’m reading between the lines a bit, but he seemed concerned that there were maybe some passengers who weren’t working hard enough to.
