What was the overall tally for the Rangers trading for Trouba, Zibanajad and Fox? Damn they got good quickly after being at the bottom of the league just a few short years ago.

I don’t think the Canucks have that kind of assets to pull something like that off….heading over to Google.

Edit: it wasn’t that much actually!! Rangers clear won all of these trades.

1) The Rangers traded Pionk and a first round draft pick for Trouba.

2) Rangers have acquired defenseman Adam Fox from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for the Blueshirts’ own second-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft and a conditional third-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.

3) the Senators traded Zibanejad and a 2018 second-round pick to the New York Rangers for Brassard and a 2018 seventh-round pick.

Not sure if you read Dayal's article on the Athletic outlining a Canucks retool to what the Panthers did. Basically, the Panthers prioritized cap space over singing good players on their roster (walked away from both Mike Hoffman (29 goals and 59 points in 69 games) and Evgeny Dadonov (25 goals and 47 points in 69 games) as pending UFAs), and traded out bloated contracts. They had some good luck in the bargain bin, but definitely worth a read: https://theathletic.com/3...-of-building-a-contender/

Risto is way more physical than Hughes and a better shooter. You lost playmaking but that’s it.

Farabee and Konecny both bigger than Garland and neither are afraid to mix it up.

It’ll never happen but I’d do it

9g is his high, his best pts is where Hughes is now. We lose offensive ability for more hits. For a guy that goes out of position a lot to make them. Flyers fans seem to think they'd have a few more wins if he'd cover his man, instead of hitting another. Getting Risto puts us back a few years, doesn't improve us.

The Athletic did an interview with OEL the other day, which the hitting comment reminded me of:

You talked about how you feel you’ve been getting better defensively with more experience year by year. What are some of the little habits you’ve been able to improve with that experience?

I kinda realized that if you have a really good (defensive) stick that it’s so hard to play against. I’m trying to look at guys that I play against and it’s hard to get past a guy with a good stick.

It’s not really about going hard and hitting guys. I’m more stick on puck first and then if I get a chance hitting people because I want to be hard to play against as well. You just realize that more and more, I feel like it’s something you learn over the years of how you defend or how to position yourself in different situations. I think that kinda stuff you get better with experience.

Stick on puck, is that things like taking passing lanes away, defending the rush?

No, I think all over the ice. In the D-zone but also in the O-zone when you’re trying to take pucks away and create turnovers. I think it’s just trying to be smarter and think one step ahead — I think that’s something that I learned. Sometimes it works and sometimes you screw it up but you also can’t forget that you’re playing against the best players in the world so stuff’s gonna happen out there.

Work smarter, not harder.

Rethought Boesers next offer if he stays. I prefer 5/5.5m. I ignore the QO & he understands to stay he needs to take a shave on what he hoped he’d get. To be a part of getting better & winning the cap space is required. Idk if he sees it this way but he still is well off. If JR/PA see it differently he’s my top choice to be moved to retool the line up.

That’s a pretty hefty shave, if that’s the offer he won’t be a Canuck next year. That’s one heck of a negotiator tha new management group has hired. I know if somebody asked you to take a 25% pay cut to keep the old crew together, you’d probably tell them to pound sand.

It’s a 375k shave so 6.5% shave.
Besides nobody will give him 7.5m.

I won’t take a shave being I don’t make millions per year.

To me it looks more like a 2-2.5 million shave, where are you getting the 375k from?

As per Retinalz:
“ I am warming up to trading Bo and trying to resign JT. Oddly enough, many fans from other teams seem willing to pay more for Horvat than Miller as well.”

I think this is the way to go. Miller as New Captain.

I don't think Bo would get more in a trade, TBH. Miller is the better player, tougher player, more veteran, and costs basically the same with the same amount on the contract. Not sure why Bo would command more?

Harman Dayal@harmandayal2New #Canucks forward lines at UBS Arena practice:

Pearson-Miller-Boeser
Höglander/Di Giuseppe-Pettersson-Garland
Podkolzin-Horvat-Chiasson
Highmore-Lammikko-Motte

A bit more line juggling. Maybe some consistency in lines would help with some consistency of games. Every win they stay the same every loss a few get moved.

The most consistent line seems to be the 4th line and they manage to stay together.

Morrow is a bit of a crap shoot. Upgrade the accompanying 2nd to a 1st and that’s your starting point.
