You have two guys about the same age, same contract, same production numbers, basically McCann and Kapanen had identical years last year. When Feds or anyone for that matter, make a statement like he did, you need to push back. If you truly expected Kap to crap out this season due to a high PDO then it only goes to show basic knowledge of PDO the expectation is McCann would crap out also. Clearly that isn't the case.

McCann's rate stats are down...

He has also regressed...

I think it’s clear that McCann is just a better hockey player so even his regression looks better than Kap’s.
- Victoro311

Actually Kapanen is having an average year for him. The frustration is he should be improving and not stagnating.

McCann also is putting up numbers that are comparable to what he has produced the past couple years. His are more impressive because he is on a bad team.

My opinion is Kapanen doesn't work hard off the ice, he has a lot of raw talent. He also has the benefit of his father playing in the NHL. Which could be a blessing or a curse, but what it does do is give him opportunities that the average person doesn't get.

Why does nobody ever suggest putting Guentzel with Malkin? I think it’s a better fit than Rust, plus Rust has a more willingness to play down low and work out of the cycle which is where Sid is still the best in the league.
- Grinder47

Literally everyone wants this. The topic that got the absolute most run on this board last season was flipping Zucker and Guentzel.

No point of discussing hockey with grinder. Dude doesn't watch the games or read the message boards.

5x5m for McCann

Can't believe a random middle 6 winger is causing this much commotion.

IDK man he’s gotten every chance to stick with Malkin, who’s having a great year despite his wingers since coming back, and has poop the bed. I feel like if anything McCann doing better than Kapanen on a worse team is a point in favor to McCann because it’s not like Kapanen is being buried. The 2RW spot was gifted to him and he’s been beat out by players that should be a good deal worse than him. The PP points, which are more so a function of being on a worse team, might inflate the perception of exactly how much better McCann has been than Kapanen this season, but the 5v5 numbers are still clearly with McCann. If both are having average seasons for themselves, it’s clear McCann’s average is better.

Anyways, McCann loses his value when he’s making 5 mil a year so I’m happy we don’t have that contract, but I liked McCann a lot and he’s been underpaid for a while so I’m happy for him.

This. I'm happy for him, but the Penguins are getting the same even strength production from Danton Heinen. ERod is right there too with his production and I bet you can sign both for under 5 mill total.

2mill per yr on 3yr contract, total 6 mill for a 4th liner a little too pricey. Zohorna or occnnor can be just as effective if stubborn sullivan would change his ways...our old guys, i believe 4th oldest team, will be toast by the time playoffs begin...

DOC went 18 straight games without a point before his surgery. He needed time in the AHL. Zohorna had 2 points and just 5 shots in 8 games. It's not being stubborn, its about not playing AHL guys over NHL guys.

Big bad Vrana back on the go...still on my IR today though because as we've discussed it takes a day to activate. Hopefully he starts burying G's immediately haha.

Yes, McCann is the better player. If he is regressing it's only minimal, he has a shot at scoring 30 this season.

Kapanen has been handed a position and he will retain it all season. That's the Sullivan way. The sooner the Pens rid themselves of him the better. Not because of Kap's play but because Sullivan refuses to promote/demote players on merit.

From reading about where pens scouts are at games (buff, tor, van) I don’t see a lot happening. I don’t see anything on any of these teams that I’d want unless they want to go after a top player which just won’t happen. Speculation from ‘insiders’ is Pitt looking to trade a LD to tor and replace with Hagg from Buff.

This whole year has been so boring. Nothing going on anywhere. I’m pre-disappointed for this TDL haha

I'd like Anderson from BUF, too. I'd feel more comfortable wit him in net than DeSmith.

Who are the "insiders" speculating that? Hagg is terrible and Burkie just had an interview saying the like their D core and don't want to change it right now.

I actually think this season has been a lot more fun than last year. Last year’s team seemed way more doa.

Just beat people and bloggers. Hence the ‘’ around insiders lol. Outside of Letang their D is pretty weak imo but that’s where their scouts are apparently being sent to anyways. I’d love the proposed trade for jt miller on nhl.com but obviously it’s a hard no by van. I think it was for a 1st,4th,Poj,Kap.
