Flyers will have roughly 8M in cap space and 8 roster spots to fill...

Either Fletcher will be making some major moves or someone will be on LTIR for relief.

problem has zero to do with the fanbase.

Actually it does. He’s 100% right. Corp only understand bottom line. It’s really that simple.

Fans: don’t spend $ on team

Corp: loss revenue/make changes

Would anyone agree that Sanheim is having his best season as a Flyer? If so, ask yourself why! The answer .. Rasmus Ristolainen. There is no analytic for this.
- jd250

I would disagree that Sanheim is having his best season. There are absolutely analytics that can look at that.

Who says we have to trade Sanheim? Right now the Flyers have $18M tied up in Ellis, Provey and Risto. Good teams spend around $23M on defense, about 28% of their cap. Right now Sanheim is on a 2 year deal making just under $5M so that get the Flyers up to that $23M mark. If the Flyers bring up two kids at roughly $1M each you are over but not by that much. The thing I wonder is this, is Provey the one that will be traded?? Think about it, which player gets you are better return, Provey or Sanheim? Also which player has completely yacked on his shoes these past 2 seasons?
- jd250

Flyers will not bring up 2 kids. Why cant you accept this?

flyers aitn good and spending the same amount as good teams, that's called incompetence.

Colorado spends 28M on defense. TB spends 25M. When Fox's contract kicks in next season, the Rangers will be at about 26M.

I'll get to this in my article today -- for the record, I'm not at all convinced that a Ristolainen re-sign means that Travis Sanheim is on his way out -- but it would be very dumb to get rid of the guy who is the primary reason Risto's raw results this year aren't truly awful.

I'm surprised Fletcher didn't give Risto more money? Fletcher was unable to find a GM that would give up a 1st round pick for Risto, so he he doubled down and extended him. Now that Risto has taken a pay cut and signed for $5.1 mil/5 years, does this make him easier to trade now?

So what are you saying here... that the Flyers have some secret number that says that RR is a fantastic player worth $25.5M dollars and it doesn't match up with anything else (eyes, scoring chances, shots, goals against, etc)?

Or... is it possible that the Flyers' half-baked analytics department simply doesn't have a real seat at the table?

- Tomahawk

Oh stop with the conspiracy crap! Why would Fletcher convince Dave Scott to double the size of the analytics department if he would then ignore them. Fletcher just signed Risto for less money than he was making in Buffalo, give the guy some freak'n credit!

Besides, the problem on this team is not defense, its not goaltending, its offense, completely offense! The Flyers have no elite talent, NONE! ZIP! That is why they have the 30th ranked PP and are the bottom of the league in scoring. Just think if the Flyers scored 3.5 goals per game, would anyone be talking about even Yandle's play? OK .. maybe they would still talk about Yandle.

Look at this lineup right now, and I am going to insert Couts for Brassard since Brassard for sure is gone at the deadline. I am also keeping G in the lineup because I am not convinced next year he will not end up right back on this team.

23 Oskar Lindblom - 14 Sean Couturier - 11 Travis Konecny
28 Claude Giroux - 21 Scott Laughton - 89 Cam Atkinson
86 Joel Farabee - 13 Kevin Hayes - 25 James van Riemsdyk
71 Max Willman or 20 Gerry Mayhew - 38 Patrick Brown - 27 Zack MacEwen

Where is the top end talent? Where are the super stars? THIS is the problem for the Flyers right now, the biggest and most important problem for Fletcher to figure out. The top 6 is Couts, Bee and Cam and a bunch of 3rd liners. Even if G came back he IMO is not longer a super star in this league. Couts is great be he is not a super star either. This is what the Flyers must figure out and correct!

For what? overpaying yet again?

So if no superstar in sight why resign RR?

as far as doubling the staff, how many did he employ prior to expanding?

How are you holding up BTW? This has got to be hard for you today ... Just for the record, I stated multiple times I would have traded Risto unless I could sign him for a team friendly contract. It looks like $5.1M is Fletcher's definition of team friendly. Not bad IMO, but still a little too rich for me given what Risto brings.

Sadly and very sadly I don’t think they will lose fans… at least not enough to force action by corp.

I mean this in no way to offend anyone on this site whether I agree with them or their opinions but as an out of town fan from a real hockey market(buffalo) yes please spare the jokes because it’s true. Many hockey fans from all walks of life here rooting for many close by teams and as a flyers fan who has spent much time traveling to philly for games and road games also I can honestly say philly fans as a whole(not all) but certainly at least 50% or more are the most in knowledgeable moronic fan base in hockey. At least from long tenured teams.

And that is sad. Because a city with such rich history and all it shouldn’t be that way.

Being loyal and all that rhetoric is horsepoop. The results don’t lie. They aren’t debatable. Decades long “philly way” poop results.

Coming out of first lock out EVERY team knew league was going younger faster quicker more skilled… philly? We need to get big slow pylons to stop them. (frank)ing stupid.

Oh great team all we need is a tender? Clarke who (frank)ing played with Bernie and knows Bernie was probably the main reason they won cups and what goalie does yep let’s get beezer instead of cujo. (frank)ing stupid.

League so clearly now about youth talent speed. For (frank)s sake there’s basically no fighting let alone hitting what philly do ? Sign or trade for players without speed top end talent and all above or almost 30+ year old just (frank)ing stupid.

And yet dumb ass flyers fan will not only come in droves to game to see such a mediocre product with no path to really succeed they’ll spend money on merch and everything else.

Corp Comcast sits back making $ laughing

Scott needs advisors because he doesn’t know the in and outs just so laughable.

That’s like saying I can run a medical board when my medical knowledge is nada.

The fans will continue in blind faith. The team will go another 47 years with no cups. They will never get it. The general flyers fan will never get it and very sadly and almost unbelievable is the fact that so many flyers fans are this way. Boggles the mind.

We all know that is the way things are proved in this world: repetition.

ps: By the way, I used the word 'Sn1gger' (which I edited out to chortle, but not quick enough as quoted in your insightful reply), which this blessed site auto-corrected to sAfrican-American!!

Next year if the team plays well no one will be ripping RR. Low hanging fruit guys on here. RR is a good NHL defenseman who brings a BADLY needed element to this team. He easily gets 5x5 on open market most likely would of got more so this is a good signing. CC needs to go to reset culture & they could be on the upswing

Why would anyone in their right mind give a GM credit for doubling down on his own colossal blunder and re-signing a player who is not worth it?

This is one of the more clueless statements made by you and that's saying a lot. As if defenseman don't have anything to do with the PP or scoring. Wake up, it's not 1972. Not to mention that overall the Flyers defenseman are poor defensively.

It's a shame you can't put two and two together. The lack of top end talent is exactly why you don't re-sign Ristolainen.
