Oh stop with the conspiracy crap! Why would Fletcher convince Dave Scott to double the size of the analytics department if he would then ignore them. Fletcher just signed Risto for less money than he was making in Buffalo, give the guy some freak'n credit!
Besides, the problem on this team is not defense, its not goaltending, its offense, completely offense! The Flyers have no elite talent, NONE! ZIP! That is why they have the 30th ranked PP and are the bottom of the league in scoring. Just think if the Flyers scored 3.5 goals per game, would anyone be talking about even Yandle's play? OK .. maybe they would still talk about Yandle.
Look at this lineup right now, and I am going to insert Couts for Brassard since Brassard for sure is gone at the deadline. I am also keeping G in the lineup because I am not convinced next year he will not end up right back on this team.
23 Oskar Lindblom - 14 Sean Couturier - 11 Travis Konecny
28 Claude Giroux - 21 Scott Laughton - 89 Cam Atkinson
86 Joel Farabee - 13 Kevin Hayes - 25 James van Riemsdyk
71 Max Willman or 20 Gerry Mayhew - 38 Patrick Brown - 27 Zack MacEwen
Where is the top end talent? Where are the super stars? THIS is the problem for the Flyers right now, the biggest and most important problem for Fletcher to figure out. The top 6 is Couts, Bee and Cam and a bunch of 3rd liners. Even if G came back he IMO is not longer a super star in this league. Couts is great be he is not a super star either. This is what the Flyers must figure out and correct! - jd250
Don’t take this wrong way but he’s right.
The examples you give are excuses used to distract you and keep you engaged in inferior product.
Keeps you spending money.
It’s used in all of business. Here’s an example:
Watch any car commercial, when’s last time you saw real info on the car? Nope you see a car or truck driving up side of mountain or some stupid poop.
Take flyers: (frank)ing gritty growing popcorn at fans distraction from product on ice

Flyers will have roughly 8M in cap space and 8 roster spots to fill...
Either Fletcher will be making some major moves or someone will be on LTIR for relief. - Glak18
What other teams who are bottom feeders are in worse shape cap wise? |
|
|
|
So what are you saying here... that the Flyers have some secret number that says that RR is a fantastic player worth $25.5M dollars and it doesn't match up with anything else (eyes, scoring chances, shots, goals against, etc)?
Or... is it possible that the Flyers' half-baked analytics department simply doesn't have a real seat at the table? - Tomahawk
OR Chuck ignores them for the hardon he has for RR |

How are you holding up BTW? This has got to be hard for you today ... Just for the record, I stated multiple times I would have traded Risto unless I could sign him for a team friendly contract. It looks like $5.1M is Fletcher's definition of team friendly. Not bad IMO, but still a little too rich for me given what Risto brings. - jd250
Why would I have an issue with holding up?
It's not hard at all. It's expected. Most of us have known how incompetent this organization is for a while now. A move like this is completely expected. It's what happens when a GM is afraid for his job by his own doing.
Another contradiction by you. Why is the team's best defenseman and one of the best defenseman in the league according to you not worth that? |

they are losing fans. that is a fact. Not coming in droves by any means. - hello it's me 2050
Really? Arena looked well attended vs Chicago. At start of season arena packed.
Watch even with g traded(assuming they actually do) and whatever other moves arena will be at least 75% full. Watch. Not to mention next year and year after etc
Gritty today whoever or whatever tomorrow. Analytics this raise scouting budget that.
All distractions. It’s clear what needs to be done yet they don’t do it because it in their small minds think it will affect bottom line.
Total rebuild will cost money in their minds which can’t happen in corp world.
EVER
When in actuality in sports world will bring greater fortunes in future.
Sadly corp run and stupid flyers fans can’t see this. Not all but way too many.
Risto signing just another example of this |

arena is empty and dead overall. less than 50% many nights imo.
They do not even announce the attendance anymore I do not believe.

This is like the 3rd comment along this line. It was completely expected. The organization is incompetent and this is just further proof of that. The GM knows his ass is on the line and with the injury issues with Ellis. Braun likely being gone. If Ristolainen is traded that leaves a potential grand canyon hole on the right side of the defense. That situation could cost him his job so he makes this decision. This is just more of what you get when you put the team in the position it is in. It's forced to make moves rather than being in a position to make the right moves at the right times. - MJL
This says it all right here about the org and GM, and I'm a fan of Risto. I never expected him to carry the team but I had higher expectations for him coming in. |

I get that “attendance “ is down. And I will bet the actual attendance goes back up as players brought up trade deadline etc but to corp Comcast that’s not the biggest part of the pie.
You do get that they already got the money right? The tickets were already sold. Comcast already got paid. Yes they care somewhat if people actually attend because it’s more money concessions parking merch etc. watch and see how many renew season tickets and such.
Very predictable what’s gonna happen. Whatever moves made will be spun with rhetoric about getting back to normal next year. Healthy again. Look at whoever they get or picks whatever and season sales will go up.
Business 101 it’s not about the product it’s about the sellability and profit.
You can literally sell poop on a stick if people will buy it.
Flyers fans continue to buy poop even though they can see it smell it he’ll even taste it just watching a game. |

But, to be fair, these are based on a 3year avg. Would like to see this years. We know how bad RR's looked in Buff but Sanheim's are pretty damn good including last years Sucks with a capital S year - THE BLACK HAND
Its shocking Sanheims chart looks so good and the team can be so bad the last 2 years. This is better than most really good defensemen. How is that possible |

It’s really not that bad of a contract. - ClaudeFather
I don't think it's bad either but 85% of the folks here don't agree with us.
People complain about him screening a goalie but I see the best of the best get caught doing that sometimes. It's hockey. It happens.
Josi has done it in a few games that I've watched and I'd love to have Josi on this team.
Flyers fans gonna flyers fan it up today |

It's pretty simple really... he's a pretty good player stuck on a pretty poopty team.

The timelines on the right kinda show the trend. Sanheim's always been good at helping push play, and lately his defensive work has improved as well. Just in time to get himself traded to somewhere better.

pretty good? These numbers are better than most well regarded dmen. The eye test sure doesn't back that up. Good thing we have these stats so we can tell whos good or not. Now the flyers should just subscribe to this site, and get rid of the analytic folks.
