I don't think it's bad either but 85% of the folks here don't agree with us.
People complain about him screening a goalie but I see the best of the best get caught doing that sometimes. It's hockey. It happens.
Josi has done it in a few games that I've watched and I'd love to have Josi on this team.
Flyers fans gonna flyers fan it up today - Bob Habib
It comes down to if you believe risto is a 3/4 dman then the contract in itself isn’t “bad” it’s about about right numbers wise.
The problem that comes in is if you think he’s a 5/6 dman then the contract is absolutely horrible
Also even if for some reason you believe he’s a 3/4 dman and the contract is about right number wise how does it fit into team? In cap world. Makeup of team and needs etc.
Ver very easy to get 85%. Not liking deal in overall scheme of things.
When looked at it from that perspective it’s kinda like how the hell does 15% of people like this deal/move made to resign risto |

Why would I have an issue with holding up?
It's not hard at all. It's expected. Most of us have known how incompetent this organization is for a while now. A move like this is completely expected. It's what happens when a GM is afraid for his job by his own doing.
Another contradiction by you. Why is the team's best defenseman and one of the best defenseman in the league according to you not worth that? - MJL
For what Risto brings to team, a RHS physical defenseman, I think the Flyers could get that for cheaper money. How much cheaper? Not sure, maybe get a guy at $4M instead of $5M per, but every dollar counts in a flat cap league. Plus where the Flyers are with a serious lack of top end talent, I would preferred the picks for this year and next year to try to move up and get a player they target. |

Flyers will have roughly 8M in cap space and 8 roster spots to fill...
Either Fletcher will be making some major moves or someone will be on LTIR for relief. - Glak18

pretty good? These numbers are better than most well regarded dmen. The eye test sure doesn't back that up. Good thing we have these stats so we can tell whos good or not. Now the flyers should just subscribe to this site, and get rid of the analytic folks. - bradster
Honestly, they would probably be better off if they did, lol. They seriously couldn't get any worse. |

It's pretty simple really... he's a pretty good player stuck on a pretty poopty team. - Tomahawk
Ding, ding, ding!!
It’s amazing how many fans can’t get past the occasional one on one battle that he loses, but fail to see:
The passes he breaks up with his active stick
The plays he defends by being in good position
His ability to recover quickly the few times he gets beat
His smart transition play
His accurate passing

Buffalo, as is well known, has been trying to move on from Ristolainen for some time in their hunt for a forward. And, as is well known too, Ristolainen is… not very good.

Adam Larsson was available prior to the expansion draft. Signed for 4x4. He's everything that Risto is except that he's actually good at defense. |

I have no idea what you are trying to say here. What examples did I give that relates to a car climbing up the side of the mountain?
- jd250
You were saying that it’s not business run and gave examples.
I was agreeing with pt21.
My example of car and mountain is just showing how the distraction keeps you off the real goal. To explain further your buying a car who gives a (frank) if it drives up a mountain like commercial. You care about cost price mileage etc.
Flyers same way they pump out renovations gritty new goal song in arena entertainment etc like car commercial car going up mountain. But you as fan shouldn’t give (frank) you should want on ice product better not the distraction of like gritty
Business 101. It’s not about the product it’s about the sellability and profit.
The flyer don’t care about on ice product. They care about profit. Corp run. That is all any corp cares about. |

Do you think it's really about a few plays where he screened his own goalie or is it about his play a whole?
How is a 5 year deal for 5M for a completely mediocre player not bad?

Would've preferred Larsson over Risto, Deangelo over Risto, hell if they were able to work out some sort of JVR Petry swap and had the Habs retain some salary, I would've accepted him over Risto |

Well I would hope that they could get a different mediocre player cheaper. Why do that though when you can overpay? I think it's pretty clear that Ristolainen was not going to get what you thought in a trade at the deadline.

let me see if I understand this. Risto is a bad defenseman. All the analytics prove this. The Flyers know it, but feel his aggressive style of play will endear him to the "hit somebody" crowd and will be a big draw thus making signing him to a 6x$5mil a good business decision? |

What exactly does risto bring? Physical? Because that’s about all. Is that even needed in nhl now? You know who the softest team in the league is? Probably Toronto. And I’d take them every day of the week with Matthews marner Tavares Nylander in todays nhl over risto type team |

I remember back when JD250 was salivating over Ekholm and he asked me who I'd rather have. I suggested Larsson and he told me that he stinks and he's a 3rd pair defenseman.

He didn't exactly put up much of a fight after he got to Seattle and he was happy to re-up in Newark back in the day, so doesn't seem like he's really all that particular. |
