It's true. Because now the calculus in management's head is, "We are only one or two pieces away from being a contender and we were decimated by injuries this year. If we let Giroux go for future assets this does not help." - StepfordSam
And that one piece I’m sure is NJ’s own Johnny Hockey. Be part of the action. Book your season tickets now! ™ |

When I stated that Risto is not going to get an extension for more money folks tried to tell me I was crazy. - ClaudeFather
I said it from day 1. Cliff was off base.
My bet is he flat out knew no team was giving him what the flyers offered. So he took it.

So they call up York, play him on the wrong side with a human tire fire? How long before they send him down because he isn't playing the right way?
Now we have Risto signed for 5 years, which IMO means Sanheim is dealt this off season.
Ellis will never be healthy.
Provorov is going to ask for a trade at some point in the next year or 2.
We are about to enter very dark times for this team, especially on defense. - MBFlyerfan

Please trade G so I have something to cheer for.
This team has turned into such a (frank)ing circus I really feel for anyone who is obligated to cover them. |

It’s a movable deal. I don’t have an issue with it. You know who aren’t moving? James van Riemsdyk, Kevin Hayes and Ryan Ellis. |

Honestly thought they would trade Risto and cut their losses. 5/5 not horrible I guess. He is what he is and he’s just one piece to the puzzle. At the moment a kind of quiet ambivalence. |

I do believe the team is playing better, more structured, but clearly now its less about the system and more about the lack of talent of the players. Regarding the culture, if you have not already, I suggest you listen to a recent post game presser from Mike Yeo or check out Jason Myrtetus' podcast last weekend, where he really broke down what Mike Yeo was talking about. The key phrase from Yeo was "There is a big difference between being a good teammate and being a good guy". This is the root of the Flyer's culture problem for years now, in fact Yeo mentioned in his presser he is the 4th head coach that has tried to address this. A good guy never goes out of his way to criticize another teammate. A good teammate is not afraid to tell another teammate, even his best friend, that he needs to step it up, play better, etc. Think about this in the context of signing Kevin Hayes and then bringing in Hayes' buddies Atkinson and Keith Yandle. Add that to what we already know about Giroux's leadership style which is also to never criticize and then also add in the statements from Braun earlier this year where he mentioned how this team needs to have the accountability that his San Jose Sharks team had with Jon Thornton as the captain. Put it all together and its clear what is going on with this team! - jd250
They structurally gave up 60+ shot attempts last game -- do you even watch the games?

RR does not make this team better. Rather have overpaid for a quality Dman than give him 5 per. He doesnt move the needle at all.
Ivan - Ellis
Sanheim - RR
That is not in any way a contending top 4. I expect Sanheim to be traded anyway.
Guess RR didn't want to be in the playoffs after all when he saw that offer. Didnt want to bet on himself. Another losing mentality player in the fold. |

It is….but they don’t have a Makar or Fox to pay the real high number to. |

playing "better" when all the pressure is off. Color me very impressed.
do you really think they acquired those 2 guys because they are Hayes "buddies"? Do you really believe that? - hello it's me 2050
How can you not see that it is all Claude's fault that the Flyers skate so many AHL players every night? How can you not see that he is responsible for a terrible training staff that repeatedly puts players back on the ice who get reinjured immediately? How can you not blame him for trading for an injury prone d-man?
Once we move Claude, all of the pieces should fall together. I am sure that all of the players will listen to Yandle tell them how to play well and for the team. I mean, that guy is all about giving it up for the team. That is why he almost never ices the puck and will take the big hit to make the right play in a break out. |
