My question is as a Sabres fan about salary retention. I know we have some Fringe players that teams would take for depth and I assume the Sabres will retain 50% on everyone. So I guess my question is is there cases where they cannot? I wasn't sure on someone like Vinnie hinostroza where 50% would be 500K. Can you eat the salary when it goes below league minimum? Or can they only eat up to 750k? This thought popped in my head because I thought of someone like John Hayden who is a hard-nosed grinder, playoff penalty-killing type who is already at 750k. Could buffalo eat half of them base salary and his cap that would be 375?
