Thought Frost had a really nice game, got engaged physically, kept his feet moving, was dogged on pucks, and was involved in a couple of quality chances. Shook off that nasty puck to the cheek, too.
Sanheim looked like peak Joni Pitkanen with the way he was cutting up the left side with the puck, lol. - Tomahawk
agree with you on Frost, he was engaged, blended well with G and TK. The way he reads the play he may look like he is not engaged but I think he ends up in the right spot, making the right paly due to his hockey IQ

At this point I’m honestly just as excited to hopefully see the combo of Braun, Brassard & Jones moved as I am for G.
Chuck should load up on picks and take a chance on Ivan Miroshnichenko if he drops to the end of the 1st/early 2nd. Kid should be going top 10 if not for the Lymphoma diagnosis. |

You wont see anything recent because it takes time. Some of my examples were older because they are well known.
Zhitnik for Coburn was 2007-08
Richards was dealt for Simmonds and Schenn in 2011
Carter for Voracek and a pick that ended up being Couturier in 2011
Schenn was dealt for picks that became Frost and Farabee
Toronto traded Picks that ended up being Hamilton and Seguin for Kessel
Toronto traded Rask for Raycroft
In 2014-15 LA traded Jones and 2015 1st round pick which ended up being Jakub Zboril for Lucic
There are plenty examples out there of vets being moved for picks and prospects that panned out. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
He said blue chip prospect. It doesn't take time for prospects to attain blue chip status.
I will give you Schenn for Richards. Schenn to Blues and Kessel to Pens were for picks, not blue chip prospects at that time. Same for Lucic.
In the last 10 odd years, you don't really see a team trade an established vet star for a guy projected as one. Teams are forced to think of the future after salary cap, and usually the revenue value of a future star >> revenue value of current star (even if latter brings cup/comes close).

The original question was if there were any trades were a vet was traded for prospects/Picks that panned out.
Secondly you misread the Kessel deal. I didnt include Kessel to the Pens. I included Kessel to the Leafs

I think you keep TK and Frost together, Cam or Joel would go well but they seem to play well together, maybe Hayes a C but assume Brassard gone, the Flyers will probably need Frost at pivot. I like Frost with G, being able to do the hybrid C/W thing.
They really don't have the players on the roster to complete a line with Frost/TK. Maybe bring up Ratcliffe, Allison but he will probably get hurt on the trip up. |

What a honor for the Flyers to be the team where Keith Yandle gets to 1,000 games in a row while being worst in the league in plus minus.
Having him soaking up PP minutes that could instead go to players who might actually be on the roster next season shows that the Flyers care more about not offending veteran stiffs than they do about developing their team going forward. |

Nvm the intellectual genealogy. The post of his that you responded to says a trade of "old veteran for blue chip prospect" (btw: I dunno if there is even a trade of star for blue chip prospect nowdays, let alone old and vet). You responded with a list of counterexamples, right?
Yeah, sorry. But that was ages ago! |

Rat trick. Home opener, Mellanby killed a huge rat as it ran across locker room floor (a wicked one-timer, they say) as they were waiting to take the ice. Then he went out and scored two goals in the game. Vanbiesbrouck told the story to press after the game and called it a rat trick. Soon afterwards, someone threw the first rat..
I agree that it shouldn’t happen after a goal, (it often worked to kill FL’s momentum as the other team regrouped during the delay for rat clean up). But after the game, it’s a cool way to celebrate a victory. |

In their almost 20k seat arena - Ratsreign
But that means lots of space (financially and seatwise) to potentially soak up by becoming a contender.

Interesting metaphor.
Panthers are at an interesting state. I see that other than Huberdeau, their entire core is signed for the next several years. There will be plenty of money to up Huberdeau salary (Hornqvuist out). So, salary cap wise they are set. They have traded '22 and '23 firsts already. Now potentially going for Giroux.
Team has been stuck with low attendance for years and years. Lots of space to move up in rankings and make money. Merely being a good team is clearly not enough, as attendance is near the bottom this year too. They need to go deep in playoffs to change the way they are perceived (their 'narrative'). They probably look at Tampa as a model and see what that franchise's success has done to fill seats.
In summary, it seems like they are vulnerable to giving up more than fair value for Giroux this year. It makes no sense to give up two of their prospects for G, but they might do it. The stars are aligned.
EDIT: at, not in. Latter untrue. - PT21
The factor that you left our and or overlooked is that the team has gotten to where it is by being smart.

To be transparent, Nashville is not a good team defensively. Not a contender for that reason in my opinion.

The optics on tv often look bad, especially early in games. They, for the last few years, have been starting at 7 rather than 730. 730 made much more sense as traffic always sucks and many now arrive after puck drop.
Also the seats behind player benches are premium club seats, most buy tix on the other side (not in the main camera shot). But even those premium seats have been much more occupied now. They built the fan apathy for years, they were freaking experts at it. It takes time for those alienated fans to believe it’s not the same old bullpoop that the Panthers were for so long. |

Not being facetious but how were they so smart?
I am curious if it is smart or did things just work out.

One thing that drives me crazy about Yeo is the game starts with York playing with Provorov but by the end of the game York is back down playing with Yandle. How does this help York? The season is over, it should be solely about developing our young players to get them ready for next year. |

When did this start to occur to you? The season has been a lost season for months now. Yeo is and has been coaching more for his future than for the Flyers future. |

I disagree. I’ve watched them some and their biggest weakness is their awful 3rd D pair. Only 6 teams have given up fewer goals in the league. They were way too loose last night and took the Flyers lightly.
