The Philadelphia Flyers traded longtime captain Claude Giroux to the Florida Panthers for prospect Owen Tippett on Saturday.

Connor Bunnaman, a fourth-round pick by the Flyers in 2016, is also going to the Panthers in the deal. The Flyers also are getting the Panthers' second-round pick in 2023 and their first-round pick in 2024, in addition to Tippett.

This is a little better, but not by that much.

It's pretty much what was expected.

Risto was a full season addition. Giroux is a 2 month rental.

I also Disagree value is at least equal.

Ristolainen: 2022 1st 2023 2nd and Hagg
Giroux: 2024 1st, 2023 3rd and Tippett

Tippett is more valuable than Hagg so it evens out

Also cleared out a contract in Bunnyman as they were at 49 I think. So let the games begin...

Thanks for the memories G. Good luck. I don’t want him to return.

A first round pick is good, but two years from now? I am aware they don’t have any in 22 or 23, but i would prefer a premium prospect now. We will look forward to that pick skating for the Flyers 5-6 years from now…maybe. How is this team going to be remotely competitive any time soon? I don’t see difference makers on the cusp and we are filled with overpriced mediocre players, i am looking at you Hayes and JVR. This organization is really garbage right now from top to bottom. I hope some better deals are on the horizon or this decade plus of mediocrity with continue for another decade or so. Nothing this team does seems to work out in their favor, from free agency to trades to player development.

If anything this is a good thing . Chuck won’t be the one making the pick then and it’s a couple years off of horrid contracts like Hayes and Ellis. This team is far away from contending. This was a good trade under the situation.

Shocking that they didn't get Newhook or Lundell.

They probably trade that pick for immediate help at some point imo.

JVR will be gone via buyout or add a a pick with full salary to Arizona

Agreed. Not much you can do when a player is forcing them to trade him to only one team.

Just wait until the Flyers get their hands on him. They’ll develop the fuk out of him

Consider me a Panther fan until the end of the season. Hope the Flyers don’t win a single game from here on out.

Uh yes.... Hagg is at best a bottom pair D. Tippett has 2nd line potential

Rather kept him at this point and dealt his rights for pick.

He didnt even want to go so they didn’t do him any favors.

He immediately needs to go to the AHL. Play on the 3rd line and on the PK down there. Learn to play the right way. Make the right plays and be a reliable defensive forward. Maybe then, he'll earn a call up. Unless of course there is an injury and then he'll play on the 1st line.

I like G and I appreciate him but he comes off a little selfish here. I really hope this is it, we need to turn the page.

CF did ok. Can’t complain especially considering he only had one trade partner.

Let’s go Panthers

Probably because G wouldn't sign an extension because I believe he will be right back here next year as a FA.

Huh? Tippet has good speed and above average size
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

He didn't stand out on the Panthers games I have seen. But Panthers is among NHL 2-3 fastest teams. Flyers maybe among the bottom 3 slowest if i am generous. So he may look incredible on the flyers.
