Tippett had a cup of coffee in 2017-18 and hasn't played more than 45 games in a season with them since. Their offense hasn't always been this good.

Fletcher was not in a position of calling the shots with Giroux having a NMC and only negotiating with one team. Again, what Fletcher got is better than what you suggest.

Fletcher had the best asset and nothing to lose. He was in the best position one could be in. Even if he only had one team to negotiate with he should have gotten their best prospects and picks and he clearly didn't.

This team is years and years away from being anything resembling good. Short of getting back a franchise player, this idea that they HAD to trade Claude Giroux is a myth.

Your car needs four tires and you have one and fairly valuable asset. You can trade that asset but the best deal you can make for it is a second tire that might fit your car and a coupon for money off of a third but the coupon isn't valid until 2 years from now.

Is that better than having one tire? Sure. Can you drive anywhere after making that trade? Nope. So does it matter?
