[quote=snake17]It makes perfect sense and it's exactly what happened here. Florida got a proven NHL player and the Flyers got a maybe and a lottery ticket, neither of which will drastically change the team's fortunes in all likelihood. So if that was the return it really doesn't matter if they traded him or not. You can fool yourself into thinking that getting something back for him is better than nothing, just like getting Ryan Hartman was better than nothing for Wayne Simmonds, or getting Ryan Parent and Scott Upshall was better than getting nothing for Peter Forsberg. Did either of those deals ultimately matter? Nope.
I've been an apologist for this team for 44 years and I used to think exactly like you. I finally saw the light this season...I hope you get there too. Good luck to you. - Minnyhock[/quote
But Tippett isn’t a maybe. He’ll be an NHLer for awhile. A better skating Hornqvist.
Tippett has played 94 NHL games in the 5 seasons since he's been drafted. His role is goal scorer and he's scored 14 goals in those 94 games. The team that drafted him with the 10th overall pick in his draft year just traded him while he was playing for their AHL farm team.
There is nothing "He'll be an NHL player for awhile" about any of that.

I don’t think Ray Bouque wanted to leave Boston. I don’t think Jerome Iginla wanted to leave Calgary. I don’t think multiple players wanted leave their situation. I think Bouque for example got old and took his last shot at a cup. I don’t view differently. Sometimes a trade is what’s good for the team as well as the player and the team talks the player into it. - SuperSchennBros
Bourque asked to be traded because Boston was spinning their wheels.
Iginla wanted to go to Pittsburgh to play with Sid and Geno and wouldn't waive his NMC for anybody else. He could have went back to Calgary but chose to sign with multiple better teams instead. |

They’d be spending that million one way or the other. Don’t think the money matters. He’s going to FL and the deal is going to be disappointing, but, I guess, it’s better than nothing? - Dkos
Like I said . G had a value. That value included a NMC. But to get an B+ prospect and a future 1rst song with a 3rd is about right. Would have preferred next years 1rst, but again the NMC had a lot to do with that. I loved G …but he’s not part of the future solution and now I hope Tippet is. |

I’m not ready to say Tippet blows…let’s give him a chance. The 2024 is an asset, whether they use it or not before it comes due. |

If its Tippett and the 2 picks, he got back less for G than he gave up for RR
Try and rationalize that "his hands were tied", he's a terrible GM - THE BLACK HAND
His hands were tied. But I can’t argue the terrible GM comment until I see a product worth watch…NHL is a results based business. |

2 more Saint rejects - hello it's me 2050
2 spots to sign college kids for guys that aren’t NHL regulars…more to the flyers benefits no? |

Of course everyone wants to see them win Cups. Let's just say that you're much more patient than I am. They've already sucked for 10 years. - Phillywhiteout
They suck today agreed ? So what choice is there but to look to the future and hope they do things to make us better? |

I'm just waiting for the little smear stories to come out about Giroux. Anything that will make the seniors in charge of this organization look good.
The "leaks" similar to when Hextall was let go are coming, you can bet on that.

Provy is a 1rst rnd talent….so is Farabee….Konecny has showed he can be, but the flyers need more of that. |

They suck today agreed ? So what choice is there but to look to the future and hope they do things to make us better? - landros 2 I honestly don't think they are as far away as many on here think. They are 4th in man games lost due to injury this year and that doesn't take into account that Hayes and Couturier played hurt for lots of games where they were totally ineffective. I know people don't like the injury excuse, but it is part of reality. The Flyers played a good deal of the season without their top 2 centers and best defenseman(supposedly). That's not to mention support players that were injured. That's not to say that they are contenders when healthy, but they are certainly a bubble playoff team and with a few tweaks by a shrewd GM(rule that part out) they are much closer than people realize. I could also throw in the fact that they've lost 17 one goal games....it's not like they have been getting blown out. Thanks! |

Did you hear Clarke during intermission about Sanheim? "He has to earn PP time". Meanwhile York is playing on the PP.

I’ve said all year that talk of a complete tear down is not needed or even possible….they have some parts going forward that are really good. I’m not sure I trust Fletch to get us there but it’s not as bad as some say. Regardless of some posters hate for fletch he has made some decent moves and he has some assets to move around to at least try a retool…to have any chance they will have to stay a lot more healthy next year. |

Speaking of what people realize. They are way more than a few tweaks away from being a contender. I love when people post that people don't realize something showing that they don't realize the reality.
You know why they've been in some games? Carter Hart.
