but i thought we loved myers here - 2Real
Defensemen are only loved when they don't play as much as people think they should, but suck when they play more. |

Hope Foerster can play well and then play well in the AHL at the end of the season. Same thoughts for Allison and Tanner L, seems they are finally getting healthy.
Maybe drafting the best available player for the Flyers is finding the best player who just had an injury, play the odds and get it over with upfront |

Unless the Flyers thought there was a trade already lined up to happen yesterday, I don't fully understand the need to keep him from playing last night.
Anyway, I think the situation originally boils down to whether Giroux wants to stay here.
The fact that his wife isn't from here and his kids are not in school yet would imply that his desire to do so would be internal. In addition, doesn't he leave the area during the summer?
That said, there is something to be said for playing your entire career for one franchise. Being a Flyer for life extends beyond the ice. I am sure that the Flyers would help him pursue any off-ice ambitions he might have (much to the chagrin of some of the fan base).
In order to stay, he would need to extend at a term that makes sense for the team based upon their cap projection going forward. Possibly something like 4 or 5 years at around $3.5M.
Since it appears that the cap is going to be relatively flat for the next couple of seasons, it may be unlikely that any of the current contending teams will be in any position to do better than that anyway given their own cap structure.
Giroux at that cap hit and term would probably be more productive than any return we would get from a deadline trade.
In this scenario, they should have focused on trading Ristolainen. His deal is meh. At least they didn't overpay by either term or cap as with their last few signings. You overpay 3 or 4 guys by $500k-$750k per year and that's a pretty effective player you end up missing out on.
I guess we'll see.

Because Jackson is doing his job. He has to put a positive spin on things publicly. - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Honestly, compared to some other team play by play tandems I think Jackson and Jonesy are pretty even keeled, they criticize the Flyers plenty from what I see. |

He continues to not move his feet. It’s a mental block. Watching him on Gs wing in person on draws (Thursday) he did not battle to maintain possession as an example.
He’s gotta get a sense of urgency out there and battle. It’s a shame as he’s got great hands, but mentally he’s still a ways away it seems. - Joe Nardone
I didn't watch last night's game but Frost played a solid game on Thursday against Nashville.

Myers on waivers. - Phillywhiteout
No brainer to pick him back up. Especially if Braun is traded out.
And Nashville filled their primary objective in that trade: getting rid of Ellis' contract. |

As you know there is a world of difference between being able to fly around the ice in a speed competition then flying carrying a puck and avoiding hits and making hockey moves. Frost has shown very little of that so called speed in a game. Looks extremely timid - hfc355
First has a number of areas where he needs to get better but I would not describe him as timid in any way.

Doesn't make much sense to pay a guy 2.5 against the cap to be a 6/7th dman next season.

zero to do with Ellis and his health. Myers is a bottom pairing dman.

So is Justin Braun, yet there he is, playing 20mins per game.
So is Risto, yet he's playing 24mins.
Bring back Myers, Ellis gets hurt, he'll be getting 18-20 mins per game. |

Myers playing 18-20 minutes would be a great thing if they want another high draft pick.
Braun and RR are clearly head and shoulders better than Myers. So why do you want to overpay another bottom pairing dman?
Myers just isnt very good.

One team is not something to work with. Florida might as well just offer a 7th rounder and say take it or leave it. - hereticpride
I’ve said from the beginning…and some disagreed, but G has a value….if the Flyers are going to be asked to retain $ for the trade…and if it’s Florida chances are yes they will, then do you think it’s worth paying a million or so for a 7th rnd pick? No it’s not. It was always going to be an issue when the agent became involved….his only priority is the player. Florida may increase the offer but unless it’s something of value then let G finish out the year here. If Florida offers a fair deal then you help G go for a cup…if not then let him play out the year in Philly and let him walk in the summer. |

Myers has size and mobility and he moves the puck fairly well. He's better than anything that have on the right side in the system right now. And they're not gonna find a 16+ min RHD in UFA for less than $2.5M.

They’d be spending that million one way or the other. Don’t think the money matters. He’s going to FL and the deal is going to be disappointing, but, I guess, it’s better than nothing? |
