Not exactly a barometer I would use for excitement.

Lets not forget, he passed on Alex Debrincat for Trent Frederic. Tells me all I need to know about what his "vision" of the team is through the draft.

Oh come on now...hindsight is always 20/20. How many teams passed on McAvoy before the Bruins drafted him? Do their GMs all suck as well? Cherry picking passed up players for who we ended up drafting in a particular situation is not necessarily a good evaluation of how a team drafts. 2015 is clear cut...all others are pretty much a crap shoot. Most would say our most recent draft was pretty darn good (based on current looks). Plenty of teams seem to want Lysell right now and we didn't get him till the 21st pick.

By giving away an extra draft pick, Ducks picked up Salary on Lindholm, which means they will be active today (6m) I want some toughness in this lineup, I do like the Bertuzzi rumor's I think he would Add some bite and be able to play with Bergy and #63
Have to admit I do not know much about Hampus, Is he the Seidenberg type ? they could definitely use that player again.
DeBrusk as well as he's played, he must be moved now - (Edm, Cal, Van) those are the 3 teams most interested

I take your point. In my example though Debrincat was a great choice and Frederic was a reach. Sweeney likes to reach, and it almost always ends up looking bad in the end even if his pick makes it to the NHL.

Has he had a few good ones, sure. But its been more mediocre to bad than good overall.

Hampus has been a pretty consistent stay at home D man that has a bit of offensive upside. I would say he is a Seidenberg that can do more in the O zone if that makes sense. He is a good pick up ill admit that much.

Not sure if we can land Bertuzzi. He is valued pretty high in Det I believe. Would be a decent pick up though.

Should be an interesting day, lets see if Sweeney can follow up with more good moves and not have his usual Gaf after doing a good thing.

Debrusk extended 2 years 4M per.
There's probably a trade in place

Watch Sweeney keep him now

Kidding of course. He needs a new home.

My take would be he's about average when it comes to the draft (particularly when ignoring the 2015 draft which remember...he had only been in the job about a month). He's below average in FA. He's above average in trades. And very good at in-house contracts. That puts him slightly above average overall by my take.

Clear indications of a sign and trade. My guess is that maybe the Bruins retain some of that salary (contingent $1M/per?) as part of whatever deal is out there.

I got a good laugh at the bold item there. You're a funny guy. Damn near shot coffee through my nose.

He has good moments and bad. He is a middle of the road GM but the body of work speaks for itself. Put it all together, and you have a GM that is 5/10, maybe 6/10 on his best day.

Lets get something right. He is not the worst GM out there. I just would prefer someone else because I do not believe Sweeney or Neely have the vision to create a championship team. They have provided just enough to keep in the playoff hunt, and have gotten close but have not adapted.

At the end of the day, this management team is not someone I want to see build a new core for this club once this one hangs up the skates.

Explain...
I said above average, perhaps should have included the qualifier "slightly", but still. Can't fault trades that end up with a player hurt (Nash...stuff happens). In my opinion, trades that get rid of an albatross contract are good (Backes). This year's trade after the extension...good trade. The Coyle/Johansson trade...very good.

I guess thats the difference then. I see cap clearing trades as what they are intended for, signing/resigning others. While some contracts have been good in house, the cap space used in most of his "above average" trades is squandered by giving coyle money he doesnt deserve or signing plugs like forbort and reilly.

Sure, he got rid of a player and their cap hit (coincidentally someone he signed to that contract). So we give him higher marks for ditching his mistake along with more assets? Cant look at these trades without seeing what he does with the space created.

So sure, in a vacuum only looking at moves singularly, yeah he has had some above average ones, even some great trades. But his entire body of work together is why I think he needs to leave.

I don’t understand the chatter about Debrusk being more tradeable or attractive? His qualifying offer was 4.4 and he signed for 4. Big deal lol, is 400k that big of a savings that other teams will get excited about? If teams want him they want him. I got the feeling the offers aren’t very good.

If Jake really wanted out of town he would have signed a 2 yr 6 mil deal.

He’s staying in Boston unless he’s part of a bigger package.

Maybe there was compromise there and the Bruins are willing to eat some salary to make the deal better. But ultimately I agree, 400k isnt even 1 league minimum player so not sure what the big deal really is.

Bruins need a top 6 winger, 2C, and possibly a bruising depth dman. Not entirely sure what they got left to trade as far as picks go. They don’t have any 2nds is the problem to land something worthwhile..

Maybe a 23 1st… yikes

It's more than the $400K though. The $4.4M is what you have to offer just to get to arbitration where who knows how that goes. He could walk and you get nothing for whatever/whoever you traded to get him. $4M is a straight up number that you know you have and as I said, suspect there may be some salary retention or at least some contingencies (draft pick round, etc.) based upon performance.

Sens fans would have traded you J.Brown aka "The Pylon" for nothing and filled your drink machines for a year.

Copp would be a nice pick up. Prefer him over Domi…
Pretty good trade for both teams. Could be a savvy move from the Sens! Bruins had to move on and get some depth.

Ok, Deslaurier gone, Now Middleton gone, Donny Donny Donny, Team needs to add Toughness, when they match up against TB or FLA they will need more grit and hammers.
Still time Donny C'mon or Rakell is still out there, hopefully this great start doesn't stop with Josh Brown

A depth piece on forward at the very least. Can you imagine what happens if Bergeron took an injury. Cripes.

I am really taken back Don didn’t bring in a guy that can play center or the wing.
