Dreger posted multiple draft picks going to Seattle, which is vague, but you gotta assume atleast one is a 1st, plus the retention and all that jazz... a second one might be in there. |

Giordano to the Leafs - aecliptic
That takes away the worry of seeing a 1st Rdr., or worse a top prospect be included as part of a deal to acquire him for the sole guaranteed purpose as a rental, with word he would still test free agency in the Summer to remain somewhere close by out Northwest. Friedman last night stated he was the Leafs #1 target, and others had the Blues going all out to land him. Unless the Blues changed their minds to go another route, the price for Giordano must have been high to some extent.

Can’t wait to see the return and defensemen options are running thin. Get Justin Braun - airjan23
I felt Braun was a good NYR option weeks earlier as the only backline rental I would consider, given his low $1.8M expiring cap hit & age 35 in contrast to Giordano's age 38 with a $6.75M expiring cap hit, and costing peanuts compared to the latter as per the experts rumors. I felt further the Rangers were after Braun once having scouts a few nights earlier in Philly at Giroux's 1,000th game, while also reportedly scouting Nashville playing them that night there.
Of those most noted d'men left as trade bait, I'd hate to admit that Chychrun may be the best Rangers option to acquire if his ankle injury is not of worry, in being just 23, and the only one available of the other top 5 of 7 left who has any years remaining on his contract with 3 thru 2024/25 at an annual cap hit of $4.6M.
With Lindholm, & Giordano gone, the other 3 remaining d'men of most mention with all being UFA eligible this Summer are:
Colin Miller: Age 29 - $3.875M cap hit
Nick Leddy: Age 30 - $5.5M cap hit
Calvin deHaan: Age 30 - $4.55M cap hit |

de Haan has been my top choice since the start. Hes the physical, stay at home defenseman that we need (111 hits so far this season). |

You beat me to it, tj, while I was researching & posting here the experts' original top 7 d'men available with their age & cap hit details. I'm afraid to admit now they may be targeting only Chychrun, after my original wish not to go after him due to the Coyotes reportedly refusing a high Panthers offer over a month or so ago for Chychrun. Should his recent ankle injury be not of worry with teams allowed to view its medical reports and more, Chychrun is now likely their best option for not only this season, but also beyond to spend anything of value for in this high priced sellers market, especially for d'men.

That's fine too..just don't want a high salary player in D acquired at deadline
NYR isn't in position to get a rental for a ransom and lose him after playoffs. No real Cup run expected this year. |

I said a few times to grab him for the 3rd pair. I thought he would’ve went for a 3rd or 4th but a 6th is nothing. Missed on that one |

I dont think the Rangers are gonna want to add salary for next season, even if he is on a friendly 4.5 million contract, they already have 17 million invested in 2 players for next season on defense and Miller will have to get paid soon. No Substantial Cap increase for the coming 2 seasons. They are in for a Cap crunch soon when Laf and KK need raises. If the Rangers trade for another player, I will be surprised if he is more than a rental. |

Well, they didn't in the end need to get involved with the Panthers in order for FLA. to acquire Giroux. So they still have as bait their same cap space & assets after acquiring Vatrano a few days ago.
The word I posted a few nights ago through direct word I heard, as to the holdup being with the Flyers & Panthers not able to originally agree upon both, the prospects that would be exchanged both ways, along with the amount of Giroux's money to be retained, turned out to indeed be the case.
That's why the deal was announced in separate bits & pieces yesterday until confirmed officially by the NHL, as I updated here then, after originally only making known of exact detail the second key component to Giroux specifically being officially Owen Tippett heading to Philly; and also still then unknown if a 3rd team (likely the Rangers) were also involved. |

Okay so hear me out.
Maybe Drury reached out to Kravs and goes look, you need out of Russia and don't want to play for us long term. Come back this year, show what you can do during a cup run and maybe your NHL stock increases, you avoid this damn war, (we'll even fly out your family), and maybe you will a cup.
Kravs comes over for the push (keep your oh borders closed BS to yourself, you know they'll find a way), they trade for some simple D help, maybe our old friend 18, and another bottom six winger.
You've given up nothing of value, can reassess everything at the end of the season, and maybe have a trade chip value increase for the draft to bolster the C position |
