I’ve heard it first hand and even GM’s have commented on it. The public data is always a few years behind the league. And even then, every team still uses the eye test.

Public data isn't near what the NHL has. They can pretty much calculate every part of the game now.

A top 80 pick in this draft for a sub replacement 3rd pairing defender while not retaining any salary this year or next is a massive win. A 5th would have been great, a 3rd is almost larceny.

We got our 3rd back and cleared 3 mil off the books next year for a guy that lost his spot to Schenn.

It was spent on Richardson. Hamonic an everyday defensemen is worth at least Richardson.
